WTB F&R gearing from 5-speed, poss. trade

Post by Leafster »

I'm looking to gear down the Deli. Has anyone retro-fitted a gearset from the 5-speed to an auto? With the larger tires the Deli is pretty doggy and I want to be able to tow a small trailer again.

gearing is the same 4.875 in the differentials

you'll want to swap the auto trans out for a 5-spd

can be done and has been done. just takes some work :M

I guess I was mistaken from other posts that the differential ratios are lower on the manual tranny but I see that it's not. I actually adjusted the kick-down cable and the van is much better now that it's holding a lower gear for longer.

I haven't had any acceleration problems with 31" tires on my auto l300 (apart from the usual). :-D Sounds like you found your problem.

I did, having the transmission holding back longer helped a lot. It's also easier to manipulate the shifting points now so the van accelerates much better.
