Does your Mitsubishi L300 make a strange noise? Need wheel alignment specs?

Broken shifter cable on 5 speed?

Post by delicanuck »

Hi Folks,
I had a shifter cable break on me. No really. It broke. Right off. I can prove it!
My Deli is a 5 speed, model year 89, though actually built in 88, and it turns out that early in the '89 model year, Mitsubishi switched to a different style of shifter cable. Naturally, my Deli used the older style cable which nobody stocks. I checked. Nobody. 'ts-OK though because the newer model fits and Glen (CCAutos) has 'em. The newer cable doesn't fit well but if you lube your parts up enough , the water bushing on the newer model will fit through the boot on the old model.

So in summation, if you too have an early '89 Deli with a 5 speed manual transmission and you bust a shifter cable, the newer style cables from mid to late '89 and later can be made to fit the shifter/boot assemblies of Delis built in early '89 or earlier.
Brett,
