Delica Lift Kits

Post by docsavage »

Hello All,

Want you Deli to look like this?

Image

I have contacted Metal Monkeys in the UK regarding their lift kit for Delica L300's. They are just finishing up the kit for production. It will give a 3 inch lift over standard. The kit includes the following:

4 x ProComp ES9000 shock absorbers (to match the lift)
4 x matching coloured shock boots
4 x Uprated Polybushes for the shock mountings
2 x longer front brake pipes
1 x rear brake pipe drop bracket in stainless steel
2 x new extended engine mounts
8 x aluminium chassis lift blocks
4 x aluminium rear subframe lift blocks
4 x aluminium transmission spacers
2 x steel radiator relocation blocks
2 x extended rear shackles
2 x rear axle lift blocks
4 x extended rear axle U-bolts
1 x extended steering arm
2 x steel heavy duty front ball joint spacers (matched to the chassis blocks)
A whole host of nuts, bolts and washers matched to each part of the lift.

Image

He is currently coming up for a price without the shocks (to reduce shipping weight) and a shipping cost for me.

This is not a simple kit for the average do it yourselfer, some alterations and fitting is required, but he is providing instructions that a competent of road shop should be able to follow.

If anyone is inerested, please let me know. If we can get 5 or 10 people interested, we can order at once and save some money on shipping and a group discount perhaps.

Thanks

James

Hey Spyker,

Mitch here, buddy of Shred... Got a Delica, remember i was asking about yours on the thanksgiving kayak trip.

Anyhow, Did an 1.5" lift on the rear, cranked my tortion bars up on the front and its pretty high... not quite what you might be looking for, but I got a guy down here that did it plus an alinment for about $450. ( 21st century alinment in Burnaby.. "Ollie")

Mitch

PS, how'd tour alternater turn out?

Hey Mitch,

Glad you got your van, I'm still lovin' mine.

I already have the torsion bars maxxed out but it still doesn't seem to sit level with the rear, maybe I got higher lift rear springs already. Anyway, I want to lift the extra 3" to be able to put some bigger wheels on. I was thinking of getting offset 16' rims for a wider track (less tippy) and put 235/85R16 for a 33" tire (the ones on my Range Rover) to get some better approach and departure angles. Clearance hasn't been an issue, I just don't like scraping on the cross ditches on some the roads I have to use.

James

Still working on the alternator ... too cold now though.

James,

Put me down as being interested in pricing right now. I have a good backyarder I know and a great deal on 33*10.5 tires. You know, they say if you have to ask the price you can't afford it, but ten year ago took a Dodge and a lift kit into a shop and ended up paying way more then I want to.

James, I'll get one too...

I am aching for a lift. I read a lot on the UK site and do we have a procomp shock here also? or what are you planing on using instead? It seems as most of the guys in the UK are using them.

Also, does it hurt the Deli if I drive with the wheels locked but only in 2x4? Just so I can put it in 4x4 if i get into a jam. Or should I not have it engaged at all on tarmac? So far I havent but I am taking a cruise up to Smithers at the end of December, and it might be a trecherous drive.

Also James, what kind of offset were you thinking forthose 16's? I would love to put something as large as what you are thinking under my deli... it would look good.

Anyhow, long story short... sign me up for the lift kit (maybe with the shocks?) and how about shipping by sea? it might take a lot longer... but it could be way cheaper.

Josh and Kev, I have you down for kits. I should hear back this week from Bruce at Metal Monkey's - so far he has been very forthcoming and prompt with information.

The Procomp shocks can be sourced in Canada with no problems. However, one doe not have to use Procomp, just need to get longer shocks. I would go with Procomp as they are a very good shock.

You can drive in 2x4 with the wheel lock light on, there is no drive to the front wheels, they will just be spinning the front differential - which is good for splashing around oil. I'm not sure it locks up faster, but you don't have to stop and back up all the time.

I haven't looked closely at rims yet, will do some searching this week, but a 2 inch wider offset should be sufficent. May have to get the extended slider for the door. Probably look at rims of a Toyota, Dodge/MMC Raider, maybe a Montero.

James

Josh - let me know if you come through Williams Lake on your trip north, would like to see other peoples vans besides my own up here.

James, I think I will stop in for a visit on the way to smithers time permitting. It is always nice to see a different delica. You have three batteries right? I only have one, and it doesnt seem that I have room for a second like everyone says... ? hmmm, another puzzle. That said it has been runing like a top, even in the chillier weather.

Anyhow, about the lift kits. Have you any estimate as to when you think we would be ordering them or the cost? Just so I can buget occordingly. I am excited for it.

Thanks for the info on locking the wheels. Have you got out in the snow much?

Hi All,

Thanks to Bruce, we have pricing on the lift kits. So warm up your loved one and ask for a shiny new lift kit under the tree. Well and empty box as we can't order till January, but the idea will be there.

The kits, without shocks are 690 UKP plus shipping and whatever the government takes. The more we order, the cheaper shipping will be (more weight, but less bulk).

Ths may seem expensive, but is comparable to the cost of other lifts on other vehicles. For example 4" lift on my Range Rover was $1200 for springs, $500 for shocks, $100 for lift blocks, extended brakelines ....

I find up here that the approach and departure angles are a little low for going through water bars, etc on the logging roads, the lift and subsequent bigger tires should get me through anywhere :D :D

So, if you are seriously interested, please e-mail me at jspyker@this1.ca to place your order. I hope to order around the Middle of January so I can get installation done by spring. 8)

James.

BTW - if you want more details of the kit and install, the Mystery Machine is the man to see.

Thanks to James for all the updates - I'll continue to feed info to him rather than post it directly on here seeing as it was him whose been doing all the emailing etc....

I'm trying to work out postage costs ATM and will let James know as soon as I have any further news. I'm even trying to see if I could come out to possibly help fit the first kit (and meet some of you guys), but not sure I can afford to!

I'll keep James updated....

Regards,

Bruce.

Hey Josh, I Have 19" from rocker panel to ground and 9" from top tire to wheel well lip.. All I did was jack up the tortion bars, and put a 1.5" lift block in the rear ($60 blocks from North shore off road) ($60 shackles from bc spring) and a aliment from 21st century

Total cost was $350.. I have 30" bfg all terrians on stock rims, but should have gone 31-32" on wider after market rims.

Hey Mitch,

I have decided to go your route to get the extra clearance. Or should I say when I'm mobile again I'll tackle it, think it'll give me a good idea if I want a higher lift. I have the same tire's but with aftermarket rims that are wider, and there ain't much room between the front flaps and the rubber. Could you fit a 32*11.5" on your van?

I know off 4 33*10.5 Mud terrains with 70-80% tread (which I asked the tire shop and they would fit on my rims fine) and a set of 5 305/70R16 BF all terrains with over 90% tread, all collecting dust somewhere. If I do go with the lift kit I'd buy those 33" myself (I have had them sitting up against my wheel arches, with jeep rims, and they looked just right), but those 16" BFAter's would be a good deal but there huge. They wouldn't fit a Dodge 2500 4*4 with a mild lift, but if anybody is interested PM me. They'll all be a well priced.

I'm laid up for a couple week injured, and early in the new year, will collect and post all the info from my WVO converter install for you. Also had pictures of my remote starter install, which are somewhere! (I have a horrible habit of not writing on my cd's and dvd's I burn - I can't even find my old games!)
