Spoiled by my spoiler!

Post by kenmac569 »

Went through Departure Bay to the mainland on the weekend and after having gone back and forth once already via Swartz/Tswassen I did not expext the cashier to ask "are you overheight?" I had a sneeky suspision that I was so I checked it out and the the best my eyball could tell me I was exactly 7' well it turns out that with the flare on the spoiler i'm 7' 3/4" a lousy three quarters and I got dinged for being over height. I asked the facility manager there why I didn't rip my spoiler off when I loaded in swartz bay and he said that the boats have a tolerance built in, too bad he didn't have a tolerance built in. I'm considering removing it but I like the way it looks, maybe I'll put wing nuts on it and take it off before I get to the pay booth.

bummer, i would have been tempted to let some air out of my tire's or i wonder how much weight it would take to drop your rear 3/4 of an inch cause those spoilers do look cool, be a shame to take it off

height depends on the boat, "overheight" is anything over 7', however some boats have only 6'10" clearance, so a Delica can easily be "under height" but still need the lower deck... other boats have about 12' or so, so you can be over height and still fit...
it's pretty random actually, I make it a policy to always check at the checkin to make sure that the boat is one of the tall ones, or that they put me on the lower deck, 'cuz there's nothing worse than the "crunch" sound when you get a short boat with a tall vehicle...
