Most Reliable Model?

Most Reliable Model?
Hello all! I am on my way to Africa and trying to find out which of the Delica models would be considered most reliable for the harsh African road conditions? Any suggestions?

Nissan Patrol or Landcruiser 7x series. Those are the two vehicles of choice for reliability/dependability in Africa.
It's the drivetrain/suspension that is tested there, more so than the engine (most diesels are good), although if you're set on Delica's, both have their positives.
L300 frame is more stout / smaller footprint / more room inside
L400 drivetrain and engine is more stout/reliable/suited to be pushed hard

If a Celica can make it through, any Delica can make it.

Sure. If you can put in 20 grand in dakar modifications and a support crew to help you.
I have an admiration for those drivers, but their rigs and support are not typical of the average person.
Albeit, there are the older-style L300's cruising around there.
If I were to venture across Africa, I would use what the people there use in the middle of the desert. Patrols and troopy's.
You can run those 4.2L NA diesels into the ground, literally, and they will keep on running. There is no engine that is mass produced that is as reliable and bulletproof as the Nissan TD42 and the Toyo 1HZ. Mining trucks, military and NATO put millions of miles on single engines.

Oh come on - everyone knows the best vehicle for the job is a '63 Opel Cadet!

if you do decide to go with a troopy then i have a line a beautiful 1995 unit, not cheap but VERY clean.
