appropriate rpms?
appropriate rpms?
Hey all, just wondering if there are any other 5speed deli's out there? I'm not used to driving a four cylynder engine and am wondering if cruising at 60K/Hr at 3000 rpm in third gear is comfortable for this van? It seems fine, the temp guage is pretty steady so am I just being a baby?

why not shift into 4th. The diesel has plenty of torque in the lower range and i doubt you're doing it any favors by running at a higher rpm. I do not cruise above 3000 even in 5th, but i am usually right around there if I want to do the speed limit. Cruiesd at 28-2900 rpm for 11-12 hours at a time and like 28-30 at a time except for gas stops and going through towns. It hasn't died on me yet, but I think if you can i'd just shift into 4th

Always shift down if you are just cruising (just not so low as to make the engine lug along) but as a general rule of thumb, if you dont need to be cruising at 3000 rpm then don't.
