Limited Slip on Royal Exceeds
I remember that there was a discussion in another thread (I can't seem to locate it at the moment) as to whether the Royal Exceeds had Limited Slip Differentials. There were lots of opinions on this, but some leaned towards LSD being very rare, and others pointed to the LSD being standard on the Royals (because they are supposed to have everything).
Now, I have not jacked up my Royal and tried to spin the wheels yet, but I tried a number of hard accelerations on mud, gravel, and with both rear wheels in low traction, and as well with 1 wheel on pavement, and the other in a low traction environment.
In each case, my van accelerated with no single wheel burnout, and with both wheels in a low traction setting, I left 2 sets of tracks....
This strongly suggests to me that I have an LSD*, and I suspect that all the Royals have them - even if some have worn out and turned into an open diff.
This is worth noting, because if it proves accurate, those of us with Royals should change our rear diff fluid as a LSD uses a different fluid according to a PDF I read on the OZ forums. (I Don't have it handy at the moment).
* (It is also possible that the only reason I have an LSD on my Royal is because of the the "Offroad Express" designation, and my suspicions are out to lunch.)

Re: Limited Slip on Royal Exceeds
Probably LSD, no floorjack?
There is an additive for diff fluid for Lsd.
The "Offroad Express" is just a cool sticker man, not a designation.
Looks like your getting to know your Deli, excellent!
Right ON!

Re: Limited Slip on Royal Exceeds
I have LSD and it is signified on my '92 Chamonix GLX by an orange/tangerine sticker with black Japanese writing on the bottom right corner (as viewed from the seat) of the driver's door, on the inside edge and looks like this:

LSD uses a different fluid than standard differentials.
The "Offroad Express" sticker, I believe, refers to a Japanese off-road magazine or group and would be like my "North Shore Off Road" sticker.
Falco.

I think you are both correct, it is probably just a sticker after the magazine. What gives me pause though, is that there are 1 or 2 Royal Exceeds on the UK forum that have the same color as mine, the same "Offroad Express" stickers on them, and the same strange "lightbar" on the rear door. It makes me think that there might have been something similar to the Jasper that was a short term "Offroad Express" sort of like the "Eddie Bauer" Fords. Probably not, but it did give me pause when I saw very similar Delica's in the UK.
I have a floorjack somewhere, but I am nowhere near my Deli at the moment to jack it up and test. Perhaps we should get the other people with Royals to check too. (I am 99% certain mine has LSD from the "burnout" tracks).

Re: Limited Slip on Royal Exceeds
I haven't "tested" mine per-se, however I also am relatively sure I have a limited slip in my royal.

Re: Limited Slip on Royal Exceeds
The last 2 Royals I saw had limited slip rear diffs.
100% certain.
Both wheels turn in the same direction when rotated off the ground
Removing the filler bolt with one of the lighted telescopic displays shows the cluth pack
As far as I've seen, all the Royals that passed through my fingers have limited slip diffs.

Re: Limited Slip on Royal Exceeds
there is not Limited slip gear oil, BUT there IS the Limited Slip additive, I believe that its normally a Delco product, any automotive shop will carry it, and if they dont, just go to Lordco, they have it on the shelf, its about $5 and a must for LSD rear diffs when doing fluid change.

Of course there is limited slip gear oil.
Even manufacturer's sell it in a bottle.
You have two options. LSD gear oil or gear oil with LSD additive.

Re: Limited Slip on Royal Exceeds
Thanks jfarsang! I just went to Lordco, and they only offer LSD additive for "domestic" vehicles, or so they say. So they can't recommend any additive for my L400 except to say to replace all the diff fluid in the rear.
Which diff fluid additive should I add for my LSD in the rear? Or, should I just replace all the rear diff oil?
And, on that note, where do I get the diff filler/drain seals from? (The little aluminum rings that you crush each time you change diff fluid).
*EDIT* Just found the following on the UK forums:

Re: Limited Slip on Royal Exceeds
It didn't occur to me that there would be different fluids for LSD when I got my fluids changed. I'll have to call Butch and ask what they used.
In case you are not adequately confused about LSD, read this article (not this one).

The same diff in a Mitsubishi sold in Japan is the same diff in a Mitsubishi sold in North America. Montero NA / Pajero & Delica JDMMr. Flibble wrote:I just went to Lordco, and they only offer LSD additive for "domestic" vehicles

Yes, that is what I told them, I wanted Mitsubishi for the Montero, and they clarified: "Domestic only, like Dodge, Ford, Chrysler etc."jfarsang wrote:The same diff in a Mitsubishi sold in Japan is the same diff in a Mitsubishi sold in North America.
