91 Super Exceed in Cumberland BC, DOT compliance in progress

Post by Delicaman »

Hey All, I just picked up my Delica at Annacis Island and WWL. :D
Got her home and now am upgrading for DOT. So, where did you all put the DRL Module? Where did you wire in? Where to attache it? ANNNND where is the Oil Pressure sender located?

Oh and another question.....if you don't mind, Does anyone have a picture of thier Dual Battery Setup? Mine had one taken out and the arrangement looks all messed up. The retainer parts I have but need to see a picture of how it gets installed with the two batteries in..

Thanks to anyone that can help out.

Hey there. Welcome to the informative site where many posting have covered topics and questions just like the one you have posed. Check out this link to see the dual battery system. :)

viewtopic.php?t=119&start=0&postdays=0& ... al+battery

At the top of the page there is a search option which definitely helps me find various topics. Have fun reading and see you around town. Everyone here loves to see pics so post some please. 8)

As for the wiring, I do not know the answer.:( But there are many people here that do. Thanks to all of those people that share all the knowledge. Much appreciated. I never feel like I can say that enough.

Oil Sender and DRL Please?

Post by Delicaman »

Hey Sean, thanks for the speedy reply. Can you direct me to any info on location of DRL module install and where the Oil Pressure sender might be? Any Electrical diagrams for a 91 would be awesome as well.

Where do you get your inspections done in Courtenay? That Esso station Reeds?

Cheers,

Benn :D

We use a Grote 44040 DRL module that only has a three wire install . All connections are done at the main wiring harness below the steering column . The module is mounted behind the right front corner turn lamp where you will find a large wiring grommet through to the inside of the vehicle . The installation meets DOT requirements and takes about one hour to do . The module is clearly marked with the CMVSS compliance number and can be used when presented for inspection . I will take a couple of picture next time we install one and post them to this thread .

Hey Benn,
We know each other! I work down at the Pumphouse and helped you set up your filtering system for your WVO. I am doing the same thing now. Right on, so you managed to get yourself a Delica. Was probably on the same slow boat from Japan. Drop by when you get it on the road.
As for the inspection, the guys at Reids have done about 8 Delicas now and he is feeling quite comfortable with most aspects of the vehicle. You should chat with him. Good guys there.
See you soon,
Sean

DRL on my Delica was done the "easy" way... importer put a 20A fuse between the ignition wire and the headlight wire inside the steering column... does the trick (though if you leave the headlights on, it also leaves the heater fan on...)

Agh, I just had to go check mine. My DRL's are just jumper-ed off the rear heat with an inline fuse, above the fuse panel, and I never knew if it was the right way. Never have used my rear heater in our tropical location 8), so I just tested everything - no problems.

Being an Aircraft Avionics Maintenance engineer, I always want the cleanest and most logical install the first time. I have the Canadian tire DRL and assessed the location behind the steering column as the neatest spot. Real close to power and to the headlight wiring. Does anyone have a thorough wiring diagram for the 90's Delicas? I guess I'll have to run the main power wire direct from the Battery. Any routing Suggestions?

Reid's Esso is going to do my inspection on Monday 4 Jun 07

Hey Sean, I will be converting this Delica to run a mix ratio of 90/10 Veggie to Diesel. My 1983 Westy with the 1.9L Passat TD really ran well on it with the heater module. Unfortunately the Passat engine has a timing gear key and Crankshaft keyway issue. Back burner for now while the Delica gets on the road.

Once I get the filters, Belts, timing belt and associated idler pullies done, I'll get the veggie heater module in and post the results.
I'm tired of OPEC an want to get off the "teet" of the oil producing nations....! (My political statement for the day).

Cheers all and I'll post pics of my sweet l'il Delica when I get some.

:D

DRL installation

Post by ccautos »

We mount the DRL unit in behind the right front headlamp / corner lamp . It is mounted up inside by the side of the grommet leading inside the vehicle so that most of the wiring and fuse holder are inside and the unit is outside in the air flow . The wiring then runs down to the steering column where you will find two black connectors linking ignition switch and multifunction switch . In the large connector you will find Green/White wire for the park lamp connection and also red/yellow wire for the low beam connection . In the small connector you will find a large black/white wire for the ignition feed wire . Hope this is helpful to anyone trying to install there own DRL`s

The day after the Long journey into Vancouver and Annacis Island to get the Delica home. Lets see, Friend dropped me off at the ferry, got the city bus at Horsehoe bay, Skytrain to Queensborough bridge, Bus 104 to Annacis island and WWL lot. LONG WALK to the WWL Building to Vehicle processing, Dead Delica!! Jump start from security guy, Drive to Japanoid for shop manual, Max Overdrive for E coded lights, Canadian tire to see if vehicle restarts. YES, restart! Try to find fuel fill point then Fuel up, Kits Sushi for supper, Head through Vancouver in RH drive at rush hour, (Tricky), catch last ferry and get home after midnight....... Any of this sound familiar to anyone?

And her she is.... Oh Crap, how do you insert and image?????
