S.o.s alternator

Post by rdub »

I'm in need of an altinator really bad it's late and I'm checking the battery but I just replaced it last winter.

Remember to check all the simple stuff first.

Terminal connections are clean and snug.
Fuses are "clean and green".
etc.

Rocky Mountain would be my choice for a part if required.
Thanks,

Rdub, I don't mean to be presumptuous but have you checked to see if your battery nodes are free from corrosion? It doesn't take much corrosion to inhibit the electrical flow and this is typically the time of year that this would happen. I would suggest a bit of emery cloth or a wire brush to the nodes and the cable ends before getting a new alternator.

Falco.

P.S.: I see you have done that, to slow at posting. Try contacting CC Autos and see if Glen has one.

I wouldn't buy a new one, probably quite expensive but rebuilt is usually under $150. Have you checked the connection near the positive battery post but not on the actual post (hard to explain but it's under the red rubber cover, often forgotten...)

Good luck.

The problem seem to lie with the tension bolt, not the tension bolt itself but the bolt to lock it in place ,it was sheered off, why? im not to sure but the altinator was sitting on on an angle and was probably slipping more and more to the point of it screwing with my battery,so i was able to get the pc left over still in the alt out and replace it ,and all seems ok so fare but ill keep my eye on as to why it sheared off in the first place.but for now thanks for all your input and all seems to be ok. But i think i may have taken a year off my one year old battery.
