Creaking noise after ignition off

Post by KA43 »

Hello Delica CA drivers,

Just 2 days ago, got this creaking/ ringing noise after turning off engine. Already replaced all the v-belts thinking it would eliminate the noise but it still there. Even tried without air-con compressor and steering pump belts. Noise is somewhat coming from the turbo. Will be inspecting the engine mount/ support weekend. Appreciate much for any additional info.. or anybody experience this problem? Thanks in advance.

BTW, torsion damper was found in good condition.

Good idea to post the You-Tube video with the sound.

I could hear an unusual whine with your key in the ignition just BEFORE you started the engine. This might be a clue, as most things don't operate without the engine running.

My ear thinks the noise is is turbo whine -- but my brain wonders does the turbo turn on before the engine runs? So. off thru the rain soaked grass in bare feet to the delica, and with my key turned to the third position which is "on", just before "start", so the engine is not running, I get a similar noise with the heater/cooling fan turned on to medium-high, which maybe also the fan for the air conditioner, and I hear a similar noise when I shut off the engine. So check your fluids, check for dead leaves clogging the air ducts, etc. I usually turn off all my fans etc before shutting down the delica, as part of my cool down and tidy up routine before exiting the Tardis.

Hope that helps. Christine.

Check the solenoid cut off valve on the injection pump. It sounds like the engine still runs a little bit more after shut down....meaning there's still a small amount of fuel getting into the engine which keeps it running for a few seconds more.

Good to hear you got it sorted out. What was it? This forum becomes more and more useful if the posting give a quick what the actual problem was and a solution if possible. There are a lot of almost useful posting on this forum.

I know my sarcastic posting earlier in this thread was clearly not useful, so hopefully I don't seem to hypocritical.

Ha.. ha forget about it Mark, actually your joke incite me finding the problem.... that was another way of telling me that "there was nothing really serious". I admit was worried about the condition of the turbo and very happy that it was not.

The first post of Tardis Deli helps me too (thanks Chris), It is also my practice to stop the air-conditioning off before shutting down the engine and why not operate the other way around then noise seems to change and that gets me started.

Was not able to trace the fuel line per mitsubc the two post was enough to solve the problem. Thanks to you guys.

As to the culprit.

It is the metal sheet covering of the engine support near the turbo. I suppose this is use protect the rubber of the engine support by preventing the conduction of heat from the exhaust line and the turbo itself.

Fastening screw of this metal sheet was found loose, the sheet was deformed causing it to rub against the engine after turning the engine off.
