Courtenay Lube-X refusal today

Stopped at Lube-X at the bottom of Ryan Hill, across from the Stupid Store and was told they will not work any vehicle that isn’t made for the Canadian market. Despite my inquisitiveness of a refusal of service based on possible liability issues, the owner was very rude and blunt. Even asking were the nearest, other, minute lube shop in Courtenay generated a look like I’d violated his wife.

Any recommendations where to go for a quick oil change, for my BC car pictured below (bought for my Mother as a going away present), in the Comox valley?

A little bit of knowledge can be a dangerous thing. North American lube-X is sadly proving this to be true..

While they are well within their right to refuse to work on a vehicle with which they are not familiar, they should also tell you as much. It may not be a RHD issue (although I suspect it might be), but it probably is. Little different than Joe's garage not wanting to work on your Ferrari or Lotus.

However, it is a lube shop, so if they can't figure out how to put x-filter onto the engine with y-quantity of z-type oil (x, y and z all being provided by the customer), then I would question their abilities and not their unspoken liabilities.

Sounds like how the Lordco-kid can't find anything unless you tell him what kind of vehicle you drive...

Joostio, the reason for refusal was that the vehicle is not made north america as judged by the steering wheel on the right. Cut and dry, no touchy. A Nissan Figaro is a Nissan Micra mechanically; if they can change the oil on a 89 to 92 Mirca with the 1 liter engine (quite common) they can work on the Figaro.... excatly the same.

The Midas shop in Courtenay was most accommodating, and loved the car. Was wondering what Delica owners in Courtenay, Comox and Cumberland use for their quick lube needs. After almost a year away; the Comox valley is Delica country, I can't believe how many we saw - too many to count. Even saw a couple of L400s up close.

L-400's in Comox?! I have yet to see my first one... None in CR yet. Glad you got sorted out with Midas - what a lame deal refusing to work on RHD's. I wonder what their hiring policies are...

my neighbor is the manager of the lube x, really nice guy. He told me they only work on stuff that they have info on in thier computer. Even though many of our cars are the same as some north american varriant they still won't do it. Not unless the computer states, 92 delica 2.5l diesel, 6l. oil 15w40. They will not be covered if the engine siezes by thier parent company unless it is a vehicle that comes up on the comp. i really don't think there is any rhd conspiracy there but i will do some fishing to find out.

Stopped at Five Star of course, and also had a close look a fresh L400, driven by a Five Star family member, at the Nanoose Esso at Noon yesterday. They do look better in person and appear also to more ground clearance than a L300; but I wouldn't want one. The one in Nanoose had dealer plates and was missing three obvious exterior 'things' to make it BC approved - hope that doesn't put a dealer in any hot water down the road if caught.

The gentleman at Lube-x was anything but nice to me, despite me having zero issues with the refusal, and was completely un-willing to my questions and explanations that the Figaro is nothing more than a Micra; the oil capacity and filter are the same. It was made very clear that if the steering wheel was on the right their no touchy policy applies; even asked him what if I was driving a JDM that was a model available in Canada with the only exception being it was RHD. Answer he gave me was repeating the policy (for the third time) of no working on vehicles not made for the North American market. Pretty obvious that he has had, and was excepting, confrontation as a result of the service refusal.

Joostio we shouldn't think of it as a RHD conspiracy, more a lack of education, and more correctly it’s RHD discrimination.

Jamesandnicole I have heard good things about the service at Rieds Esso (Owner Trent?). I don't do my oil changes any more, my excuse being is I live in Thailand and don't own any tools.

But nothing compares with Glens willingness to pick up and deliver Powell River Delicas at NO CHARGE – amazing!!!! How can you not send you Delica to the Van Isle Delica crew.

Why did you hold out on us. You should have saved us all the hassle and used that spray on the "A Snobby World of Nerds" post. Is that a local product or is it Thai?
