aluminum mirror bars
Ok I'm all about the bling, made a new mirror bar with solid aluminum stock ,it took a bit of jigging and fiddling but not bad for a prototype, hacksaw , file , drillpress, tap and some various sundries , gonna pickup some more aluminum tomorrow and do the passenger side , I'll take some pics as I go to show the process.
cheers
Just made a few sets see my ad in the parts section!!!!

cheers

Re: aluminum mirror bars
every single day i look out my window while i am driving and i am just sickened by the sight of my rusty protuberance !!!!
Good idea. !
Anyone know if the stock ones could be plated ? I have often wondered. I think the aluminum ones would be better though.

Re: aluminum mirror bars
I'll have to catch up with you to see what you've done: Moon Machine's mirror bars can't be re-chromed, they're far too pitted.
From the images, I now have one answer: the bar goes all the way through the mirror. Always wondered about that.

Re: aluminum mirror bars
You aint got a thing if you don't have the bling
The aluminum polished up nice as chrome
I'm gonna pickup enough bar stock to make 8 or 10 sets next week
Prices will be around $115 polished , $ 80 not polished, 10% off for
members
with 20 posts or more or something to that effect.
Will come with necessary fasteners.
Will be at least 2 weeks before any go out the door
These are way stronger than stock and cant fill up with water like my old ones were
The ends are drilled and tapped for 1/4- 20 machine screws.
one pic shows the plastic plug that needs to be trimmed
otherwise its a pretty simple swap the toughest part is taking the plastic bushings that are aged and decrepit
you can see the end of the drilled bar in this shot aswell
cheers

Re: aluminum mirror bars
Absolutely way less air friction and the shiny bar is reflective enough to be an extension of your mirrors, the sparkly glare will keep other traffic alert too!!!

And given aluminum's high strength-to-weight ratio, it's also an excellent choice for the Festivus Pole (besides, I find tinsel distracting).Artacoma wrote:Absolutely way less air friction and the shiny bar is reflective enough to be an extension of your mirrors, the sparkly glare will keep other traffic alert too!!!
