Hello fellow alt fuel brewers and consumers, I was wondering how others out there are doing on the b100 and this cold snap we are having, I'm in victoria and still running pure B100 , I have samples of each of my batches in one liter bottles sitting out side on my bbq to see what temp they might start to cloud up at and give me a better idea of when i should start to blend and IF I should start to blend with pump fuel, so far only one batch has started to make a noticable cloud in the fuel , I havent had any issues with hard starts or anything like that but we have been pretty lucky with the temp here, I think about -6 is the most we have been at, I dont count wind chill as my fuel is not in the wind. I have played around with a spare freezer for a few months now I find most of my fuel starts to cloud at -8,-9 so if we do get abit colder I might throw in some dino juice just to be sure I start in the mornings, I do have a Pretty skookum fuel heater so I know that helps, but also makes extra condinsation in the fuel tank on cool down.
So whats been your experience with this cold?

I'm running a blend right now - I added $20 worth of diesel to the tank just to be sure my wife and kids don't get stuck out there.
Talking to some folks in Ontario, its a good idea to carry a spare fuel filter around and be able to change it on the go. The biodiesel can gel up in the fuel filter quickly on a cold night and not thaw out too quickly. You can swap it out then reuse it once it warms up again.

I put some pump fuel into the truck today, Its a bit warmer out, but just incase......
Kuan, I would love to see your delica truck, I just brought in a Mazda, same looking truck, alot of the parts are the same... Its still on B100 and its doing good on the pure bio, I have my furnace oil tank In the basement so I keep putting my excess biodiesel into the furnace tank.

I have a question about this.
Is it ok for the stock set up to run, lets say, 50% Bio 50% reg fuel?
At what ratio does one have to start fiddling with things?

Tottaly depends on where you live and the temp out side, B100 seems to have a cloud point of around -5 -8 and the jell point is around -12 so as long as you are floating around 0* like here in victoria, lower mainland you shouldent have a problem, but it also depends on the process used to make your bio diesel and if you have left over water or glycerin that is Very comon from using converted hot water tanks, you just cant get all the glycerin out of it from them.

I don't even have a clue how to make the stuff yet.
I was just thinking of the prospect of (if I got a hold of some), throughing in a jerry-can here or there to extent the distance between reg diesel fill ups.
Even if only in the warmer months or days.

that wouldent be a problem this time of year, but as i say that , I have images of the lake being frozen and it being -10 hahaha, we have a place up on the west arm of the lake and I know it gets alot colder there than here in town. but you could easily throw in 20L on most days and your engine will run smoother, It will also lubricate your injection pump. Always a good thing.
