Parts in Vancouver-Skid plates and roof cages?

Post by jeremy »

Anyone know of somewhere to get skidplates for the Delica? Homemade or custom? It would be nice to cover up the gaping scoop up front. Ive seem some pics on the forum of people with them? Anyone? If you can make them let me know. maybe a group buy? I'm also looking for roof cages. I've got perma mounted bars on my highroof Delica but would like to get the spare tire up on the roof. Any shops that sell them? Maximum Overdrive has been mentioned?

Hi Jeremy,

I'm looking into getting a custom one made. I have a template from Japan made of stainless steel but I'm not sure if it's the best design yet.

As for prices, it will be cheaper to have them made as a bunch but I'm sure not everyone will agree on one particular design so we'll see...
I'll keep you updated as I go along.

Using this template for dimensions,

Cut and bolt up expanded steel to fit the snow shovel, which I remove during the winter as it can pack with snow fast. Not pretty but sure can handle the price (free).

Also check the "Breakfast at the Tomahawk" thread, under British Columbia Events - Lower Mainland. Custom skid plates were discussed there, too.

Wayne of Luxury Imports is working on a stainless steel skidplate. He always does excellent work. Maybe not cheap, but will have slots to allow cooling.

He's guessing that it will be between 350-500, depending on quantity. Will let everyone know when it is ready to go.

The drawing in an earlier posting, I'm not sure where that comes from, and not sure how to attach it.

When i get my van i plan on making all sorts of things including a skid plate. I have access at work to welders ,plasma cutting table, 20 ft. shear, brake press, etc....etc.... :)

I will make a few extra and sell them cheap !!! ( i mean real cheap) alot of the time it takes only moments more to make extra ones of anything. IT's the first one that takes all the time. Once you have dimensions and bend angles etc... it's easy. Of course you do have slight variations in vehicles sometimes.... My wife thinks i am crazy for always wanting to make things . If someone has a detailed drawing of the exact bend angles and dimensions i could make a test one and fit it to your vehicle while i wait for mine.. Just throw me enough money to buy the brake operator a case of beer.... :) And it's yours.

It should not cost more than $100 if you don't need the bling factor of stainless steel !!!

What a coincidence... Cheap is my middle name. Actually there has been some info floating around on skid plates and I think it was Delicat that had some of the latest info and a decent design.

Where are you located?

By pooling our resources it would be cool to be able to make inexpensive accessories available to club members. I have 25 years of working design experience and CAD capabilities that can be helpful in making peoples' ideas come to life. CNC templates possible too. There are always material costs which should be factored in so nobody is out-of-pocket from that perspective but I like the "case-o-beer" method of payment. In keeping with club spirit, I'd rather have a nice set of accessories on my van in trade for my services instead of trying to make money/spend money doing it. Of course, nothing is free, so if you can't trade something, we could figure out some sort of monetary compensation to keep an even playing field. Just thinking out loud....

Let's all share ideas and come up with some cool stuff! Am I out to lunch?

Jaggedfish, do you still visit WhiteRock (or mainland)? Fishslapper, where about are you?
(That's a lot of "fish" all of a sudden!)

I'm off until next Tuesday and could find time to meet with you to go over the process. Bruce (MM) should send me his CAD design file this coming Monday so we could look at it or I could also forward it to you guys.

I'm not interested in making money on this, I'm going through the process for my own so making extra ones won't really be more work but it might bring the price down.

Anyway, PM me if it works for you. You can also reply on the other skid plate post (most recent).

I was toying also of making skid plates out of hard ox. It is the steel they put in dump truck boxes as a liner because you can beat the snot out of it for a long time. Then i would rhino coat them so they would not rust. That would be the best.

I can get the plasma guy to put whatever design you want into it (i.e. mitsubishi, delica.ca, etc...etc...) Also i could do an anti snow version with angled louvers.

Stainless and aluminum could also be done too. I just need a technical drawing or one that i can copy !! (and improve on)

let me know...

Hey Delicat!... sorry, I missed your post there somehow...

Yup... I live full time in White Rock (Ocean Park actually) and part time (mostly weekends) on The Coast. If you're still up for a meeting of the minds I am too. I am in town (WR) this weekend too mostly finishing renos under the watchful eye of Mrs "Fishy". Feel free to PM me if you wanna.

I will check the other skid plate posting too now that I'm catching up on loose threads :-)
