Where is this oil coming from?
Any ideas? I don't seem to lose oil between oil changes so this must just build up slowly. Any ideas where from?

Hmmmm, I see my pictures aren't showing up. i'll try and change that.
Anyone suppose that rear half moon gasket could cause a mess of oil? I've noticed a bit of oil on the steering boot for a while now. Maybe it's time to replace those?

If I remember right the lower notch is for a cold tranny, the upper for hot. So yours looks fine. I think you are supposed to check level with the engine running and in neutral.
Might be your head gasket leaking? Was the one picture your tranny bottom? It looked like the seal was leaking tranny fluid to me...can drop it and seal again with gasket maker. Would be a good time to change the filter in there as well.

Engine was running, good to know it's not too low though. Yeah that's the trans bottom. I had the fluid replaced a couple years ago, guess their gasket didn't hold up.
For the oil, I don't think it's the head gasket, I don't really ever use or burn fluids. These drips are small enough that there's no marks under my parking spot or anything which also makes me think half moon gaskets.

Pictures resized -
Valve cover gasket came in, gonna switch that up this week hopefully.
The trans seal, annoyingly I guess I'll have to drop the pan and reapply some RTV. Transmission fluid is a little pricey eh??? From what I've seen the fluid needs to meet SP3, right? Which everything I looked at did (unless it was manufacturer specific). Don't know when I can get around to that though.
Think I should run a can of SeaFoam trans conditioner through before I change it?

Re: Where is this oil coming from?
There is a serious leak in your transmission fluid system. You should fix this as soon as possible. few months ago, I had a similar issue in my Lancer. Then I had to fix this by a mechanic from Apex specialized in Edmonton. If you can seal the gasket then do it immediately. Check the condition of filter too.

Re: Where is this oil coming from?
Though to tell by the photo, but that oil looks a little dark on your dipstick. So dropping the pan and while you're in there changing the filter and gasket. They recommend every 40k I believe to do an oil swap. I run ATF+3 (I'll double check to be sure) a standard Chrysler oil, it's an Asian Warner trans which is almost identical to ones found in jeeps of the same age.
When you change the valve cover gasket, I used a tie down to pull the trans dipstick out of the way, and don't forget to add black RTV around both half moons. Have fun with the rear one ;)

Re: Where is this oil coming from?
Oops didn't check the dates on the posts, I assume your figured it all out.
Do you have a catch can fitted? Is your intercooler fouling with oil? Mine is, and I've taken the valve cover off once to clean the air to oil separator, had no luck, so I need to re do it, this time drilling out the rivets and actually getting inside, then I'll JB weld it back together
