Battery Advice

Post by stever1000 »

I am pricing out a new Group 24 single battery for my single tray 94 L400

I would like some advice on what to do, based on other peoples experience with batteries.

I can get an Edmunds Battery, 700CCA for 120+tax (-15 if I bring in my old battery) It comes with a 6 year warranty, 3 year free replacement

Or I can get an AC Delco, 600 CCA for $133 with 30month free replacement.

My concern is if my Edmunds battery dies outside of the lower mainland, I can't easily get a replacement. Whereas with the AC Delco battery I can exchange it at any Lordco.

Assuming the battery is fine for a few years, the Edmunds battery sounds the best for price and reputation I have read on this forum
But if I need a replacement, the AC Delco battery sounds better (despite cost, etc)

What would YOU do and why?

FYI
I didn't include Canadian Tire due to their unreliable warranty,
and NAPA was 177.79 for 675 CCA and 1 year free replacement

I'm just going through the same thing, looking for a new battery for my 94 L400. I decided to go with a group 34 yellow top optima. Pricey but I wanted something reliable that could handle a bit of "deep cycle" type use. Going with the single battery will free up space for another deep cycle battery down the road.

If both your batteries crap out at the same time with no warning.. you probably have something far more serious going on and battery warranty is gonna be the least of your worries. Edmunds makes a good product, it's all we sell at the shop and actually all I have in all of my vehicle.

Image may not show up.. but that's my van last week on a Frozen lake in Ashcroft posing as timing and race control for the Cars On Ice ice racing series. the stereo was left on all day sat and sun with a 1500watt inverter running all of our timing gear. The temp was -7 and I had zero issues re-firing the van at the end of the day.

Thanks TieMyShoe, Edmonds it is. Do you have one or two batteries? Your story is impressive

I only have one battery and crappy tire did a test and concluded it was dying.

If you have only one battery ~ shouldn't you be using a 27 series? I know there are major differences between the L300 & L400 but a lot of the ingredients are generally the same, such as the suspensions being totally different but they use all the same ball joints &c., I'd think the battery set ups would also fall into that category. In the L300 body types the single battery set ups use 27 series batteries. Is that not the same with the L400s?

Falco.

P.S.: Edmonds rocks.

I went with a single Group 34 because I plan on adding another deep cycle in the battery tray when funds allow it. Thought about a group 27 but didn't like the idea of using my starting battery as a house battery. Not sure about the OP

I plan on having two group 24 batteries in the summer using one as a starting battery and one for auxiliary connecting them with a VSR

So one 24 is fine temporarily since the only difference is the size
