Front Blower Quit Working

Post by CREGAN »

ARGH. The front blower decided to stop working on me today. Did some researching on here and decided I would try to do some fiddling. I can't even figure out how to get the f-ing glove box off. I have been looking through the manual and it is as clear as mud. Does anyone have experience with this issue and can walk me through what I should do to get that POS working again? Of course it picked a stretch of super hot days to give up the ghost.

I have never had a vehicle I love and hate equally as much. Help please!

OK. So I have followed these directions:

I replaced both of the resistors (the little square one was completely burnt- I have pictures but my home computer is down at the moment so I will post them later). I pulled the blower out from the bottom of the housing and hooked it directly to the battery and it spun very well.

I still have no f-ing fan. Any ideas of what to do next? Is there a fuse for the fan somewhere? I have the pictures of the translated fuse boxes for the engine compartment and the one under the ignition and I can' seem to find a fuse. What gives?

I have been without the van now for almost 2 weeks and I am getting supremely pissed off. Any help from anyone who has had the same problem would be greatly appreciated.

I have been working with BigBird but still no blowing of air in my van. Any chance that anybody here has a schematic for the front blower system? I have replaced 3 relays and 2 resistors and I am still not getting any power going to the blower motor. Any help would be appreciated as I am pulling the 3 or 4 hairs I have left on my head trying to solve this.

It should be noted that Craig's L400 is equipped with the Digital Climate Controller and that's what we need information on.

Has anyone purchased the CD repair manual for delica's off EBay? It might be in there.

Craig tested all the relays and they work.
Power is present at the relay contact as well.
25 amp fuse is good and power is present.
Blower motor works when he bench tested it.
Rear blower system works and has no issues.

All thats left is the front climate control on the dash.

C'mon folks, someone here has to have something on this so Craig can get back to driving his Deli.

If you are close to Aiedrie you could try and replace your Delica blower with a Delica blowhard. It moves tons of air but be aware it always blows hot and can be very hard to turn off. 8-)

Going to attempt to pull the climte controls tomorrow and see why no juice is getting to the fan. Hopefully not going to crack the dash surround, but i tend to be as gentle as a rapist so i won't hold my breath. I wish someone had a spare digital climate control kicking around that I could plug in just to check when I get it out.

I found it easy to take off the dash surround.
Not sure if you've searched on the removal process but I found this link helpful. The L400 in the pic doesn't have the digital climate control but the process is the same to remove the cover.

http://imageevent.com/russpix/bandexpander

It walks you through step by step. Once you have that off it is easy to see the screws that hold on the climate control. Be patient with the multi-wire connectors on the back of the climate control. They all have a little tab you push to remove them but the tab seems to be oriented differently on at least a couple.

I have digital climate control in my L400. If I can help with voltage or ohmeter tests and readings to compare let me know.

After making the pilgrimage to Calgary I was lucky enough to get some much needed help in person from BigBird. We found a "bad ground" and the drive back was quite enjoyable. I want to thank BigBird so much as he was amazing and so helpful in sorting this problem out. He also helped me fix a few other nagging issues and is in the process of sorting a few others out.

I can't thank him enough. It was awesome to meet up with someone with so much knowledge and expertise and willingness to help. Reminded me of the VW community, except way cooler. We got to chat a lot and I learned a ton of stuff just from the afternoon. He has the most mint van I have ever seen. Even the engine bay was meticulously clean. Quite a beauty. Thanks again.

Here are some pics of our mini Calgary meet up:
