90amp Alternator part #
Does anyone have a part number for a 90a alternator for an L300? Searched to no avail.
Thank you

Re: 90amp Alternator part #
Are you looking to replace a smaller alternator? If you're just replacing the same thing you can always have it re-built. I know that a lot of the Delica dealers have sold them in the past but I have no idea about the part number.

It is replacing a 75a, I haven't taken it out yet. Brighouse has a part# A3T 40999 but aren't sure if it will fit so I wanted to verify or find an alternative.

Brighouse is where I had mine rebuilt, they've done quite a few Delica alternators so they should know what they're talking about.

Is there anything else I can do to verify it will fit? Do any NA vehicles take the same one?

L300 has a special alternator that the vacuum pump attaches to on the back.
You can try Maximum Overdrive (maybe others) he use to carry larger replacement ones.

There is an oil pump in the back of the alternator which creates a vacuum for the power brakes.
AFAIK there is no north american equivalent that will be a direct bolt-in replacement.
You can however take it to most alternator/elect service shops and simply have them rebuild it.
If you want a higher output, you can ask the shop servicing the alternator to wind it for a higher voltage. Just be aware that as soon as you go a hair above 90amp's, the three musketeers (alt/battery/at) lights will stay on due to the poor stock wiring in the L300.
Your other option (which I would have opted for in an L300) :
http://www.delica.ca/forum/100-amp-alte ... g-429.html
The internals are compatible with north american alternators (diodes/brushes/voltage regulator).
It is a royal pain to re&re. Unless you have small hands and are very comfortable with tight mechanical spaces, I recommend to have a shop remove/install it for you.

Re: 90amp Alternator part #
The alternator at Brighouse has the oil pump on the back and 2 belts, he said its for a delica L300 but wanted a part # before he shipped it to Nelson just in case. I have a constant 2a draw coming from the Alternator with key off so I think its a diode bridge, I would get it rebuilt but I have a Jasper and am pretty sure its a 75a in there now and wanted to upgrade to 90a for extra draw from my WVO electrics. Also wanted to take apart the old one when I have more time. Would a 90a use the same mounts? is the one at the shop possibly for an L400?

Re: 90amp Alternator part #
If they stock it, it is specific to the 4D56T for the L300.
Some L400's came with the 4D45T but most come with the 4M40 engine which has a different alternator (standard without vac pump in the rear).
In your case, your best bet is to pick up the phone and start calling the BC JDM dealers/parts sellers and ask them what their part number is for the alternator.
So far what I have seen is each JDM importer/dealer uses either their own part numbering system or Japan's Mitsubishi part # which may or may not show up on your local part suppliers system.
Call around, get the part #'s and see if they match up. That's the best anyone can do over the keyboard/forum short of someone buying that alternator from that specific store and successfully running it.
Good luck !

I've changed mine 3 times, and this is true, it really is a pain to do. The pain can be mitigated somewhat though, last time i did it was ok, as I knew what I was up against. The trick is to do extra things to make your life easier, one thing you can do, if you're near an oil change time, is do that, and while the filter is off, deal with the alternator, you get a lot more room to get to the pipes above with the filter off.
If you arent doing that, then some pipe pliers through the plastic panel by the wheel above the chassis is the best way to get the clip out of the way on the main vacuum line.
Take the drivers floor out, and get a stubby 12mm ratchet spanner for the adjuster. This makes life easier.
Take the wiring off, and the oil pressure wire, and get them well out of the way so you dont get caught up on them.
Replace the belts, you may as well, slacken off the power steering pump and take its belt off so you can swap them, but move it back when you are adjusting. Let the belts settle overnight, under tension, before a final tension. Make sure the bottom bolt is loose whenever you adjust, I believe ignoring this step is why alty mount holes go oval.
I wont get a shop to do this, simply because time wise, its a lot of work, and the cost mounts up.

Re: 90amp Alternator part #
Brighouse in Richmond knows this alternator well they have rebuilt tons of them (they did mine a few months ago).
I am sure they would know if it is Delica or not...
Cheers

Re: 90amp Alternator part #
Their name came up lots in my alternator searches, the first guy I talked to said it was the same one they rebuild often for delicas. I called back and talked to someone else, he thought it was probably for an L400. I ordered a 90a from Maximum Overdrive.

Re: A good alternative alternator
Hi!
If you find difficulties in your search for a 90Amp alternator for your L300, you may find the 110 Amp alternator for Hyudai Starex a good alternative. Fits perfectly to a L-300 4D56T engine, no bracket to alter, just align and tighten. Produces a good supply of electricity too. You won't go wrong.
