Calgary Deli meet happened

Post by Erebus »

Well, it happened. Calgary Deli owners met. We had (in order of arrival at rendezvous) Green1, Ruminanté, Jungle Jon, and Piyeguyo. First thing of course was to check out each other's vehicle.

Then we cruised down the Powderface Trail, a 40 km gravel road that twists and winds its way down between the foothills of the Rockies. (Thanks Jon for the great suggestion.)

Of course, we had to stop for a good photo op!

We continued down the road, where I managed to drive and take a photo in the rearview mirror:

When we got to Prairie Creek trailhead we stopped for a picnic, enjoying the wonderful weather:

To give you perspective on the terrain, here is a panorama. For you flatlanders out there, or those who live at almost sea level (especially Brits), this spot is at an elevation of about 1800 metres (6000 feet). This is a valley in the Foothills, not even into the Rockies!

After a wonderful picnic, we drove on and ended up in the hamlet of Bragg Creek, where the Delica's amazing offroad abilities were tested to the limits in the parking lot.

Then we all split up and made our own way home. A great time was had by all.

Had a great time, good seeing some people, and getting some reactions ;)
here are a few of the pictures I took...

(near as I can tell, this picture was taken in the same spot as Ruminante's rear-view mirror shot...)

I should also ask if anyone on here, in Calgary, has a white Delica, and happened to be leaving Valley Ridge this morning around 0900... I saw them as I passed that intersection and assumed they were headed to the meet, but they never showed up...

I grew up in Lacombe so I was wondering if this was the area I used to fish in. I fished alot at Peppers lake, Cow lake as well as Prairie, Elk, Shunda and Onion creeks? It was an awesome area and spent alot of time there as a child and would love to go back.

Nope, those creeks are just south of Nordegg, we were west of Calgary. If you take the TransCanada west from Calgary, then turn south about 1/2 way to Banff, that's were we were. You're thinking of an area about 125 km north of this one.

It was very nice to meet some of the Delica owners here in Calgary. We're still a few but the number is growing. Some more pics...
