Newbie in Victoria - Chamonix

Post by JethroBean »

So, I put a deposit down on a 91 Chomenix (with VI Custom Imports - Parksville, BC). I've had my eye on the Delica for some time but the wishing and the finances didn't come together until just the last week. I've been doing my homework, searching the web and stuff, to educate myself . It's great to have this forum! I'm going through the forum now to learn all I can. Got any good advice post it. My Delica should be ready for pick-up in a week or two.

Make sure the timing belt has been changed and ask if the timing was reset when it was changed . Ask the condition of the cooling system ie - radiator , hoses , cap , thermostat , water pump . Check if it has been re-aligned for North America . Ask which fluids have been changed and check the transmission was serviced . Ask how the engine mounts and transmission mounts are . Check the A/C works . Check it still has two batteries and that they look good (no `furry` terminals) .

ccautos, thanks for the good advice. I'll add those to my check list. My deposit is not binding so if the condition of the van doesn't measure up I can say no, take the deposit back and try again. It's nice though to have defined, as best as possible, a standard I should expect my new Delica should measure up to. For now I depend on common sense and the advice I get from people like yourself and others on the forum. So, thanks and tell me more.
