Windshield Re-Seal

I know this topic has been discussed before, and I've read lots of these older posts, but I was hoping to get a bit of info about people's experience getting their front L300 windshields re-sealed (due to leaks). There's lots of posts of people suggesting Speedy Auto, but saying they're weird when it comes to the possibility of breaking your windshield. Not too many people mentioned if they actually used Speedy, or other companies for this job?

My front leak WAS gone (when i rhino lined the roof right up to the front top window seal), but is back and getting worse so I'm pretty sure my windshield needs re-doing (Butch's suggestion too). My quarter panels were fixed just over a year ago, so I doubt its them.

Any thoughts on windshield re-seal places, or anyone had luck with DIY methods (ie. low viscosity silicone)??

I had good luck with with low viscosity silicone after trying every other fix. I used a fid (plastic putty knife kinda thing) to open up the rubber so I could get in deep, and I used a lot . Most of the work was cleaning up the squeeze out after but it was worth it and once done was spotless.

You can buy at Lordco and the like windshield urethane sealant it is around $15.00 for a caulking gun tube...I have had bad luck with silicon from the residue that runs down on the windsheild when wet...

The urethane stuff works great (I have used it to repair broken engine mounts as well in the past as well!)

Hey,
Marine Sikaflex.
Its messy so be careful,
Borrow a cordless caulking gun if you can.
They are awesome and let you concentrate
on doing a nice job not modulating caulk pressure and flow, they make a nice even bead not a lobby mess.
Seal your windshield washer sprayers too, they like to leak.

Replacing the seal yourself is not too bad a job and
you would get to do any repairs or maintenance to the sill,
Something autoglass places like to upcharge you for.

Do you just run a bead around the exterior of the washer sprayer, or do you remove it? And how do you remove the darn things?

I think the stuff thedjjack is referring to is basically the same thing as Sikaflex.
Cleaning the area with an acetone/wax remover type product
will give you the best results.

As for the windshield sprayers
I never looked into new rubber gaskets for the sprayers,
might be an easy part to get.
I just goop around them not remove them,
they are held on by a spring clip that is U shaped
and seats in a groove on the sprayer.
You have to reach up under the dash to get at them.
I removed some from a van up in coombs that
had its dash ripped out already,haven't tried to
reach up there on my deli yet,might make me grumpy.
