Re: Import pickup
The Toyota Hilux trucks manage to command a very high price in Japan at the auctions for some reason. As a result the landed price here is too high to make much sense compared to a used Tacoma etc...

Re: Import pickup
Max overdrive was planning to fix up my old mighty max and possibly put in a 4d56t engine. It might be worth a phone all to see what they're doing with it.
Are you opposed to a 4x4 kei truck. Possibly a Delica truck?

Re: Import pickup
As Nxski mentioned, the japanese line of cab forward trucks are awesome.
Eg. Mitsubishi Delica & Canter; Toyota Liteace & Townace & Hiace & Dyna; Mazda Bongo
I think my Toyota Liteace truck is the coolest tool I have ever bought. 14' long...8'x5.5' totally flat box (no wheel well bumps)...all sides fold down...3/4ton capacity...manual everything...almost the entire vehicle can be worked on with a phillips screwdriver and a 10mm and 12mm wrench...etc etc

Here in Australia the Hilux has a very high price.Even though there are so many of them ,they still comand a high price. The benefit for the Hilux is the aftermarket products and wealth of knowledge relating to them.I still have an 86 turbo diesel (same as the top gear one)that I used as a farm vehicle. It was almost unstopable.Rust is the biggest killer.I have had five Hilux's petrol and diesel and both had their problems.Like anything research is the key and ask lots of questions.
The landcruiser ute is the choice of farmers and miners.A very competent truck commanding even a higher price. They also have a huge aftermarket product base. They are an exellent work, play and towing vehicle. They don't come as a dual or extended cab so it can get uncomfortable for long trips.
Have fun looking.
regards David

Re: Import pickup
That FJ70 pickup looks pretty freakin awsome. The delica trucks would be okay, just once i sold my delica i swore I'd never own a car so slow again, I'm looking for a 6 cylinder I think. I wonder how much a FJ70 would be after all the usual work was done to it?

Re: Import pickup
Saw a white quadcab toyota pickup in Courtenay yesterday, might be the one from Campbel River, looked newish, probably 94+ if I had to guess. Buying used trucks sucks when you can see them in person, many are beaten on and may bring unknown problems with 4x4 and frame twist etc....... as mentioned, the pretty ones will usually fetch a decent price.
