Hello Everyone,
I have been looking for an amazing diesel for some time now, flipflopping with an old toyoata and mercedes and then I discovered the magic that is a Delica.............I used to have an old Aerostar who had to be put down for a various number of reasons.........but I guess the main point of this post is that I live in Winnipeg the coldest city in Canada for 8 months of the year and was wondering if anyone lives anywhere near there because I see a lot of BC owners and if you do, if you've had any troubles in colder climates??
Thanks

Good questions - and would like to know myself. I have not had mine through the winter season and am interested to know how well the Deli will perform when I head into the BC interior this coming winter. Will be around the Merritt / Kelowna areas - so not as cold as Winterpeg, but cold enough. Hope some of the Albertans on the block can comment???

i was in kimberley last winter... i found altitude was more of a factor than the temperature. Because my van was pretty rough starting there this summer too, but back here it has been starting great even on colder days. Make sure you have decent batteries, and I got a polar pad stick on oil pan heater, not as great as the lower rad hose heater but i think it helps.

Diesels generally hate the cold when starting - end of story. Anything you can do to get it up to operating temperature, the sooner the better. Once going, they keep themselves warm.
What I'm finding here lately on the Island as winter approaches and the temperature is dropping lower and lower towards freezing (for example, this morning it was all of 9 deg C - don't laugh, I'm serious, that's cold for here!), the throttle lock is coming in handy. I pull on my knob (didn't even have to put any WD40 on it), lock it in place for about 5 minutes at 1000 rpm, disengage the throttle lock, and then drive off no problem.
So I guess the question is: "Is there a block heater for these?" Maybe something by Dodge that had these in their trucks back in the '80s? We're looking at moving back to the Prairies in a couple of years, and I would hate to have to leave the Moon Machine here on the Island.
