Re: towing with a 2.5 lwb
ok so i pulled the trailer back home and the old pajero did ok, but not great, i could feal every little gust of wind, and every little bump in the road, it could do a long trip i am sure of that. I just think its a little to hard on it

So I would guess around 3000 pounds should be optimum weight.
Did you had an equalizer hitch?

Re: towing with a 2.5 lwb
My 2.5 auto pulled 5,500 (equalized) from Calgary to Toronto on 33's last summer. Acceleration was slow, however it held 100k through the prairies & slightly less with wind. Vehicle felt steady and controlled the whole trip. Seemed like the wind has more of an impact than the overall weight. Averaged 15 l/100 however backed off on all hills when boost hit 13. I'd put 31's on if I were to do it again, or trade for a 2.8.
