I would be down with a meet for sure (or is there just a bc/van one coming up anytime soon?), would be interesting to see other Delis and owners for sure. Any evening works for me. Taylor's crossing is OK, I've been there once and wasn't overly impressed, I like the raven towards deep cove, apparently there is a nice pub up in lynn valley somewhere that mountain bikers meet at.. or there is JJ Bean at park and tilford (best coffee ever) if folks prefer a cafe to pub. What do I know though I've only lived in BC for a year

Hi Coaxial,
Seen you around. Nice ride. I'm the blue on white '89 in Lynn Valley. Plate reads UBUIBI
Welcome to Deli-dom, BC-dom and North Van-dom.
'Bout that mud on your bits? Put a a snake type sprinlkler out on the street, turn it up full blast and park over it until everything is good and soaked, Then switch to the most furiously forceful sprinkler you can find, I like my kids lady bug sprinkler, and drive back and forth a few times. That'll get a lot off. You may then have to get under there and spray around a bit to get the intransigent little muddlings.
Then go get your underside and fender wells coated. e.g. Steve at Rhino Linings on Main will be happy to help. I had the columns waxed inside too. Money well spent.
Then don't play at the beach anymore. There are better places and ways to risk life, limb and transfer case. Locally, there isn't much... except maybe the Cypress Estates road, turn right, 100 metres past the 4rth switchback on the Cypress Park road. There is a rumour that they are going to gate that or maybe have already.
Hmmm yeah a North Van Deli Clan annual suds suck! We should pick a spot where we can all park facing a busy street so as to attract a bigger crowd of envious onlookers so the Black Bear would work pretty well..... Did I say annual? I wonder what would be bad about a monthly suds suck? The last Tuesday of every month? Early enough to get the parking spaces all together and get tables all together. Of course that means we'll have to eat at the Black Bear.......I'm OK with that. Is there a new thread on this topic yet? Where?

Re: New delica owner in North Vancouver
I'll check out cypress for sure. I went up Seymour the other night and all I found was a HUGE movie crew (50 vehicles or so and lots of security) and lots of radio towers. The beach is fun :) since I haven't found anything better yet :).. but yeah good idea, I will wash my undercarriage tonight.. we have sprinklers.
Monthly? I would be down with a weekly beer drinking contest. I mean meet.
Black bear sounds good to me.

Re: New delica owner in North Vancouver
Hi again,
Not on that road. The road was in great shape this spring. Its probably even smoother now. All its missing is a centre line. The first time I did it, I was in a 2wd Astro van and I got passed by a Cadillac. Its a nice scenic drive but there's no technical sections to speak of. You can easily get from Harrison to Pemberton in a day. In fact you could get from your house, do the loop and be back in your driveway in a long day. If I weren't so busy, I'd go too. Fill up in Harrison and you should make it to Pemperton OK but carry a jerry anyways. I should be able to tell you which freeq your supposed listen on, LAD 3 maybe ?, 153.325. If you look here you'll probably be able to figure it out:

Have fun!

Re: New delica owner in North Vancouver
Agreed. I'm actually worried that it might be a bit boring. It sounds like the road up to clear creek hotsprings is a bit challenging though so that should be fun. I just hope it isn't overrun with littering rednecks like some reports indicate.
My rough plan is leave van early sunday and take one of the highways to harrison, head up the east side and go to clear creek hotsprings, hang out there, picnic lunch, turn around and come home. Check out anything that looks fun on the way. I'd be doing an overnight trip if I didn't have a concert tomorrow night.
CCHS appears to be at 49.685267 -121.743417
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&g ... =addr&om=1
Right now I've only got FRS radios, a questionable CB unit, and a shortwave/weather/uhf/vhf thing so I don't think I can do whatever type of radio that is :)

Re: New delica owner in North Vancouver
Ooohhh The East side.
Never been up that side but I've had in mind for a long time to do that road north then cross over to the Nahatlatch River valley and then down to Boston Bar and back in on the #1. Should be snow up at the top of the Nahatlatch road by now but the scenery would be worth it. Might want to take chains and a tirfor . That would be a nice drive.
LAD 3 channel is VHF so your scanner should be fine. If not, you can borrow mine. Even at that though, your only required to listen and even if you do, its not like you get to hear much except the truckers talking about the weird van they just passed, "looks like a ... well its like.... I dunno, its just a weird lookin' van thing.... Pretty cool though, over" And really, who can tell if your listening and why do they care? The drivers aren't giving a play by play of their location so you won't know where they are until you see them anyway.
Oh wait a sec.... Have you driven active logging roads before and do you know about sweepers? If not, read the PDF here:
http://www.for.gov.bc.ca/hth/engineerin ... Travel.pdf
That's why your supposed to listen; So a driver can tell you to get to the inside of a turn... real fast.

Re: New delica owner in North Vancouver
How would you get up to Nahatlatch? silver creek/main/shovel fsr to kookipi fsr? (man do I ever wish I had a big foldout version of the backroads book)
Here is my rough planned route, should be very easy:
http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?f=q&hl=e ... 202759&z=9
Kind of a side note; I found on this guys page that in 2005 anyways, Clear Creek fsr doesn't connect to the Spuzzum Creek FSR according to this page http://www.borderlinebc.ca/borderlinebc ... ecce.shtml (search for "how close"). so clear creek fsr goes to the springs and a camping/logging area, and is essentially a dead end. I'll scope it out possibly sunday to see if it connects now, it would be handy.
I've got lots of tows and a 2ton trifor.
I haven't got any radio that covers that frequency range (I should get one) but I am familiar with logging roads, I grew up on farms and helped out with logging in the winters actually when I was a kid. This was in ontario & minnesota though so I appreciate the local info!
If you think the radio would be useful and your comfortable loaning it to a stranger I'd love to borrow it, it sounds fun

Re: New delica owner in North Vancouver
Stranger? I thought you had a Delica? Let me know if you want to borrow the radio, I'll need to find a set screw to affix the mast in the external antennae mount.
Yep, Kookipi FSR. Like I said, I haven't been there myself but it looks promising on the map. Also, I've heard quad types say things like "Oh yeah, that'll go." Of course, they would say that about almost anything that isn't technically a cliff, and even then... with a winch.... Well I'd like to try it some time.
That link to 2005 recce looks like a nice trip.

Re: New delica owner in North Vancouver
Sounds like a bit of hassle so if you think it's worth it I'm game.
Re: New delica owner in North Vancouver
So I went and found that road you described on Cypress.. and what did I find?
the only vehicle back there was a twin of me! well a taller version. Parked at what appeared to be someone's house.
Also the way is shut.. as of august '07 it says.

A fun drive up to that point though. Glad I have the fog lamps because the whole mountain was entirely in a cloud.
On the way down I found some neat little 4x4ing stuff inside the second switchback, nice steep stuff that was actually only possible in 4L "tank mode"
. Sat and watched a group of deer for a while right next to the van, even a pair of bucks tangling antlers for a while.

Re: New delica owner in North Vancouver
Success! the harrison trip was a lot of fun :)
The clear creek hotsprings road was a nuisance, it had large drainage chasms across it so was very slow going.. thank god for the delica's clearance though. The springs themselves weren't that impressive either, so next time I plan to stick to the main FSR road and maybe go farther north, rather than spending forever on a side road.
Harrison is definitely awesome, the east road takes you as far as 600metres above the lake at times so the views are epic, and we found some huge sand beaches (yes I drove in the sand and in the lake
)
I'll get some pics on flickr at some point.
