Today's events

Post by nxski »

I ended up doing my first somewhat tricky off-roading today and found that I definitely didn't have much clearance in the front. I definitely won't be going again until I have the torsion bars cranked (which incidentally will be when the lift goes on) I should also mention that the area where I went (on the North Vancouver side underneath the Lions Gate Bridge) was great for practice and for splashing through some puddles.

The other things that happened today was that all of my displays (clock, radio, temp gauge, and 12v outlet) stopped working simultaneously. I'm thinking this is probably just the fuse!? Those are the only things not working, would that all just be attached to a single fuse? I'd go an tinker with things but I'm doing a lot of studying over the next 2 weeks and just don't have the time. I'd basically just like some reassurance that nothing worse than that has happened!?

Thanks

Its a whole lot easier to add your spacers under the upper control arm when you've backed off the torsion . You might as well replace the upper ball joints while your at it. Re-indexing a spline or two is a good idea.

Make sure you wash your undercarriage asap as this area is known to have contaminated soil (from some old factories) Apparently this stuff likes to eat metal.

Where did you learn this?

I go there quite often ~ I like to eat sushi at the base of the bridge pier and watch the boats going in and out of the harbour. There is also the "mini-golf" off road practice area that I have used for trial purposes. The only other structures that I can remember ever being there was a gun installation from the Second World War and the sewage treatment facility that still remains there.

Some local newspaper (don't remember which) had an article about it a few month ago.
Also someone I met with a dirtbike at the area told me about this issue.
Not sure if it's the whole area or just parts of it.

Used to be a flood plain before the advent of the Lion's Gate Bridge. Got filled in for the purposes of building the bridge (track & crane). There was at one point a block house that housed a gun installation during WWII, which was located south, next to the treatment facility on the west side of the bridge. This was demolished in the '80s. The land, like most of the north shoreline, belongs to the Squamish Nation.

This is the view from the northern bridge anchor, taken during the construction:

Thanks for the update! I still haven't found any hard evidence of there being chemicals there but the undercarriage is in need of a wash anyways after the salty roads.

Any ideas on the fuse or should I just rummage around and see what I can find and take it into CVI if I have no luck?

This is the fuse I was able to find, it may be difficult to see but it has blown. This makes sense as the power was lost when plugging my ipod into the outlet. From the fuse box diagram it doesn't show it as effecting anything other than the outlet though. Is this the case and do I have another problem? If no one knows I'll let you know tomorrow probably as the 15A fuse is the only one I don't have a spare for.

Oh, you're talking about a fuse in the fuse box, I thought you were describing a fuse link. Typically if your radio has gone along with some of your lights and other accessories then it is not generally a fuse in the box. PM Jay if you haven't solved it.

Will do, this is one of the problems for sure but there may be another. Hopefully nothing serious,

Turned out it was just the 15A 12V outlet fuse after all. I replaced that and picked up a spare and all is good. 8-)
