New Nanaimo (Cedar) Deli Owner!!!!!

Post by Gyaku »

Hi all,

I took delivery of my 90 Super Exceed yesterday. Thanks to Glen at ccauto's and Jack at 5 Star, it's running and looking great. The only glitch in the process.... ICBC has changed the method of registration. If anyone is registering a Deli, ICBC now use the original VIN and have a "more" complicated registration process.

David,

First of all welcome to the Delica club. Secondly, can you expand on the more complicated registration process? Thanks.

Hi Josh,

First they assign a temp VIN. If your insurance agent inputs this into the ICBC system, you will not get past the "welcome to ICBC screen".

After inputing the proper VIN, the agent still was required to call the ICBC "VIN gods" in order for the system to allow a non-standard VIN to be entered. After the appropriate offerings a few 100 questions and 30 minutes on hold, The ICBC VIN gods looked kindly upon me and the process was finally completed.

I should mention that the VIN office is only open until 430pm and my attempt to register the night before was met with frustration by both myself and the insurance company.

I'm sure the entire process will get faster after all of the insurance companies understand the new process and managed to read through the entire 20 page document

Hey David, Welcome to the group. Nice to see another Deli owner from southtown. I just got my rig 2 weeks a from Glen as well. You'll have to post a pic of your Deli so I know who I'm waving at when I drive to the Parkway. I'm across the highway in Cinnabar Valley.

Welcome and congrats! Re the new registration process: it was supposed to simplify things, saving the wait for a new VIN plate to arrive. It probably has saved time, but from the perspective of the new registrant it's still tedious. Hopefully ICBC will streamline these new processes.

Congratulations and welcome too! New Delica central - Nanaimo :D

A Delica bought off a dealer doesn't have a BC vin, didn't know that. Makes sense.

Cheers,
Kev

All of us conspiracy theorists figure ICBC is keeping the original VIN in order to keep better track of imports...... and yes Elvis is alive and living as a woman in Nova Scotia;)

Drove it to work today...... do people ever stop asking questions..... no I guess Deli's are just too cool.

Hi Adam,

Still trying to get picks of the van. So far all I have to show is a wet camera.

It looks as if we have the same colour... Green over Grey.

I'm pretty sure your new Deli is the one I took for a test drive up in Coombs. Very nice ride, the only reason I didn't buy it was because it did not have shoulder restraints for the mid-row captains chairs. I've got 3 kids and need as many places to put them as I can get. So I bought the '91 which wasn't ready for even a test drive but had the shoulder straps. It took two very long weeks of waiting for ICBC to get a VIN before Five Star was nice enough to delivery it to our door. Congratulations on your buy, and see you around the 'hood.

Hi Adam,

So far my kids are still using the 5 points. My oldest is about to graduate to the booster, so it looks as if I will be retrofitting the shoulder belts this summer. I have the necessary anchor points, now all I have to do is get the belts. Does the 91' have ratcheting or velocity belts?

I wish we could have waited for a 91/92, but our family van died and my wife liked the crystal lite roof. I didn't fight to hard as we were buying a van that I liked and it wasn't a overpriced NA van. I'm hoping to put in a DVD/CD/MP3/NAV system with the money I saved....
