Intermittent wiper problems

Does your Mitsubishi L300 make a strange noise? Need wheel alignment specs?

Intermittent wiper problems

Post by SnowSlide »

My intermittent wipers failed recently. Now the wipers run on low speed in either the intermittent or the low positions, and the high speed still works in the high position. The wipers don't "park" properly anymore either. They stop immediately when I turn the switch off, wherever the wipers are.

Needless to say, this is a bit annoying.

The only thing I've checked so far is the wiper fuse, which looked okay (though I didn't properly check for continuity).

Any ideas on what might be the problem here?

Sounds like the switch on the wipermotor, never tried it myself but i've read that getting to the wipermotor means removing the entire dashboard (unless you have very long and tiny hands)

Wiper problems

I have rebuilt several older vehicles, and usually find that wiper problems such as those you mention, come from dirty contacts in the wiper motor. I don't know if Delicas are the same, but that is where I would start. Disassemble, and clean any points in the motor and hopefully all will be well again...(':P')

If you take out the dash make sure you take pictures and post them in the faqs section. I need to take mine out sooner or later as well. Although I do hope it is something simpler than that for your sake, taking out the dash seems like it is a lot of work.

Good luck.

my wipers started working normally again during last weekend's rain on the Sunshine Coast. Not sure why, but I'm inclined to think that there were some dirty contacts that somehow cleared up. A bit of a mystery, but I'm not complaining.
