engine swap?
engine swap?
Hey all. I was wondering if anyone knows what gas/petrol v6 engine would mount to the Delicas trans? My van is down for the winter and I have a friend that runs an auto wrecking yard....

I would get a 2.4 turbo from a 2001-2004 Chrysler Sebring. This is the 4G64 Mitsubishi engine found in the Petrol Delicas, with the bonus of having the turbo and can be tweaked for 200+ ponies. If he has a spare turbo set up I would be interested. I may be in Edmonton around Christmas with a bit of time. I'll let you know.

Re: engine swap?
Just a heads up, the diesel Delica has a different transmission than the gas one. So you might want to do some more research before you find a donor gas engine.

Re: engine swap?
you might have to pull your motor and trace the shape of your bell housing, so you know what will bolt up , you could always send the trace to advance adapters in the states and for a few hundred dollars they make you an adapter to bolt to just about anything, I would go with a eagle talon or dodge stealth... just make sure you put on a proper torque converter for the added power, the diesels are torque monsters, but have Very little HP. gas engines are all hp and very little torque...

Re: engine swap?
Glen at CCAutos has done 2 (?) diesel-to-gas changeovers and one gas-to-diesel changeover, so if anybody knows its going to be him.
A better fit might be a 2.8 litre from an L400 or from a Pajero. When you change from diesel to gasoline, you generally have to change the transmission too because the gearing is too low for the rpms of a gasoline engine. You put a gasoline engine on the stock L300 diesel transmission and you're going to run out of gears at about 50km/h!
