G'day..I have never had a L300 diesel but my guess from experience is that the aircon belt only runs the aircon. It should go around 3 pulleys. The main harmonic balance pulley, in the center of the bottom of the engine that turns all the other pulleys, the air con pulley itself and a tensioner pulley. The tensioner pulley will be the one that you loosen off to remove the belt. The hassle may be that you have to remove other belts to get the aircon one off. Cheers..

go ahead and remove it, I did. My compressor went this summer so I removed the belt to avoid accidently hitting the button and causing more issues and to reduce parasitic draw.

well if you are sure that you don't need the belt anymore the easiest way to remove it is to cut it, then you don't have to loosen anything or get other belts out of the way :-D

you only have to loosen off the tensioner.....no other belts need to be disturbed, It will take all of 5-10 minutes.
