Winter Tires
Hi All,
I got a 94 Pajero with 265/70/15 tires and am looking for some Winter Tires. I checked tirerack.com and the Monteros use 235/75/15 so i found some good deals on snow tires. When i when to check the size difference it looks like the 235/75/15 are alot smaller than i thought. Should I go for it since its the OEM Montero size? i cant seem to find affordable winter tire on 265/70/15
Thanks !!!

Re: Winter Tires
Where are you in ON? Depending on where you are you could drive to Port Huron, MI through Sarnia to Discount Tire in the U.S. 4 brand new winter tires 235/75/15 with installation, warranty and lifetime rotations only $407 U.S. tax included.
Not an expert on tire sizes so I can't answer your original question.

Re: Winter Tires
KP.. Looks like you are caught between a rock and a hard place. 9rs (235/75) are a lot smaller in diameter and width than a 10R (265/70). If you go to 235 you are going to loose an inch of ground clearance as well as smaller track and less road contact as well as changed speedo and fuel consumption. You really need to find someone with the 10rs at the right place. There is a size call 255 which may be a little cheaper. I have done some mods to my L400 so I can now fit 265s but I am currently using 255s as they were a bit cheaper and almost the same size. The quality of Kumho tyres has improved a lot in the last few years and their prices are good. Maxxis also make good tyres at a reasonable price. Please disregard if these are not known to you...
Cheers..

Re: Winter Tires
was at costco last week.
a pair of 31" BFG AT were $250/pair; including balancing, mounting and taxes in.
i haven't seen BFG AT any cheaper anywhere else, so i guess i'll be grabbing 2 at Costco in early December.

Re: Winter Tires
can you replace just 2 tires on a 4WD? I was under the impression you had to do all 4 at once. Anyway, I got four 31x10.5r15 BFG ATs from Cedar Tire in Nanaimo for just over $800.

Re: Winter Tires
You can do 2 at a time as long as they are the same size, brand and tread pattern. Can get a bit unruly to drive with different brands and patterns and possibly illegal. Can be bad for you car if they are different size (circumference).. Cheers

I can't really help you with where to shop i'm afraid.............
Well i could but the drive here and back might be a bit off putting to justify the savings etc..........
I use General Grabber At2's for my all round all yr tyres...... And i use 30x9.5x15...........
The biggest i can go while keeping mud-flaps in place etc.............
I find they are the absolute dogs danglies.............

Re: Winter Tires
What everyone tends to forget is ... how WIDE are your rims? The stock L300 rims are 6.5" wide, which limits tires to 235/75r15 for safety. Sure, wider and larger tires will physically fit, but are prone to coming off on hard cornering. Reputable tire shops wont put tires on that are too big for the rims.
If you want to mount larger than 235/75, you need 7.0" or 7.5" wide rims, 15" or 16".

No, the STOCK rims are only 6" wide, the aftermarket ones on my L300 were 6.5"...The stock L300 rims are 6.5" wide
I've been told the stock rims on the L400 are 7", but I haven't checked yet.

Re: Winter Tires
Am I missing something... The guy who started this thread has a Pajero hasn't he?? That is also what it says in his profile! The posts says...
I got a 94 Pajero with 265/70/15 tires and am looking for some Winter Tires
So there fore he will have 15x7 inch rims..That is why he is running 265s. For him to run 235 on a Pajero would be a a giant step backwards as far as 4x4ing goes. L400 rims are 15x6.5 inches and you can not run 265s on them safely although some people do it anyway. You can fit several different model Pajero rims on any Delica but to run 265s on Pajero rims on an L400 you must do the "Front Guard Mod"..I have Pajero rims on my Jasper. Cheers..

Re: Winter Tires
6", 6.5", ah so I don't know what I'm talking about. What else is new.
Ya, I forgot he had a Pajero, but the same principle applies.

31x10.5x15 is the non-metric equivalent to stock size
you can fit up to 33x10.5x15

Re: Winter Tires
thanks for the advice !!! I thought the Monteroes in the US was similar to the Pajero's in Japan for tire size. I went to the tire size calculator and sure thing it was alot smaller. I will try to find some 255/75/15 or 255/70/15 that fits my budget for the winter tires. The Bridgestone Duellers A/T that i have is at 50% i think and might not be as safe for my wife to use during winter.
Being from Ontario we do get some bad snow and yeah My wife and I do snowboard and do drive upnorth... and with snowboard when there is a storm.. its hard to resist to go boarding :)
I was not sure of getting another A/T tire coz i was planning to go 16's and use the 15's as a dedicated winter set.
Thanks!
Ryan

Re: Winter Tires
I've got Bridgestone Dueler AT Revo on my Delica (the LT version, not the P version) and I find they suck as snow tires. Good in mud, but not so good for snow and ice. I don't recommend them for winter use.kpsxtyone wrote:The Bridgestone Duellers A/T that i have is at 50% i think and might not be as safe for my wife to use during winter.
