RattleTrap

Post by Delistyle »

Just drove the new Delica home to Bamfield on the logging road. Everything looks and runs great (except for a whine at speeds >50km while in 4H). The dash, doors and steering wheel rattled excessively on the logging road. Is this normal?

Howdy again,

Maybe,

A 50k/m in 4x4 wine, try changing the diff fluids and repacking the front wheels bearings. Don't forget there's lot's of rubber bits that can degrade at this vans age, especially the sway arm bushings.

Interior noise, we have a noisy interior model and a quiet interior model, when the Dash has been apart it doesn't hurt to apply thin beads of clear silicone to contact areas. Not too much cause you might want to take it apart one day. Try it on the plastic cover for the steering wheel, it loved to rattle and this has silenced it for over a year now. Have tried the doors yet, and I can remember our last trip back from Bamfield in the Deli - all the kids all a snooze and all the dust staying were it should. Love the Deli' seal's, our 99' Astro van was a dust sponge (and good for a flat tire, with passenger tires, every time on the round trip into Bamfield or Torquart).

I had a little dust migrate in the back on a long logging road run. Back seems to be a magnet for crud- airstream seems to want to push the van. Anybody know if an airfoil would change that?
back to the dust and rattles - I lubed all the seals with silicone rubber stuff which definitely helps, nice recirc air flow

We eventually decided to take it back to Sabir at Maxoverdrive. I have to respect that he was honorable enough to take it back - even after a couple of days. There were just too many issues that appeared; leaky seals, really loud 4WD, poor diesel mileage, black smoke on startup. then the battery died on the ferry because the alternator wasn't properly hooked up. Glad to be rid of it, but looking for another...
