Won't turn over, help please. all fixed ,thanks
Idrove to mount Cheam today and hiked to the top, when i got back i could not start the van, luckily it's a standard and got some help to push me down the hill to start via compression. I get power the clicks from the plugs but when i turn the key, nothing.
any suggestions would be welcome as my drive way is not on a slope:)

Re: Won't turn over, help please
To start,
Check your battery and connections.
Charge up your battery or get a good jump.
Once that variable is eliminated go to the
next stuff. Could be your alternator is not charging
your sytem too.
I did not close my door all the way and the
interior lights wore my battery down.
It would get glow clicks but no start.
Did not know you could hill
start a deli,sweet!
5-speeds only of course!
Stick wins this one!
Good luck!

Re: Won't turn over, help please
Connect a jumper from
the battery positive and
the starter switch terminal on the solenoid
Wear eye protection you will get a spark.
If this does start you up you solenoid is good.
Probably an alligator clip on the solenoid and a long wire so you can
touch it to the positive battery while sitting in yer deli.
Out of gear too eh?
Unless you like scaring the crap out of yourself....

Re: Won't turn over, help please
The starting terminal is usually the small wire on the solenoid by the way.
Don't think you new ECU would hold up the show, different system.
Please post what you find!

Re: Won't turn over, help please
is there is a starter cut off connected the the clutch on some deli's? if there is that would be a good thing to check as it would be a quick and easy fix.

You mentioned you chnged your glow plug ECU. What was the P/N and how much did it cost? Where did you get it from?visotzky wrote:thanks. anyway to check if the solenoid is bad or good? also i recently changedthe glow plug ecu, could this possible be the culprit?
Mine is acting up and would need a replacement.

Re: Won't turn over, help please
OK, jumped the starter and it works, put a test light to the small wire on selonoid with key in cranking position, no joy.
so power is not getting to the starter. Batteries have 13v.Grounds seem solid. Starter relay? where is it? Any other suggestions. Oh ya got the ecm foe125$ at CCauto in parksville. they are on this site somewhere.

starter relay is under the panel behind the drivers seat next to the two glow plug relays and the drop resistor.
check if there is a switch that gets activated by your clutch (up along the arm the pedal is on :)), if there is it is likely a safety cutoff so you can't turn the engine over in gear.
edit: I put solenoid instead of relay oops :)

thanks, "check if there is a switch that gets activated by your clutch (up along the arm the pedal is on :)), if there is it is likely a safety cutoff so you can't turn the engine over in gear".as far as i know this does not exist on this van. I have had it for over two years and scared myself a couple of times starting while in gear:) The relay clicks but when i put the test light to it with the ignition key cranked i get the click but no power from the leads. I thought that if you heard aclick it meant it works. So what do you guys think? is it the relay?( my suspicion).
Re: Won't turn over, help please All fixed!
Thanks to a Call to Glen at CCAutos , My deli is all good again. turns out one of the connectors coming off of the + terminal was corroded.
Thanks everyone for your help. I learned alot.
