Glad to hear your family and you are ok Adam.

Make sure you get anything extra from the van, heck even the DRL module is an add-on. And with all your Delica know how, we can't wait to see you next WVO Delica. Maybe a L400 will be a better tow vehicle and you get to be the first to cut your teeth on a L400 WVO install.

Scary when family is in vehicle, glad you were able to control it enough that mobody has any lasting injuries. I hope that you come out at least even financially.

Parting out may be an option, ICBC I don't think will sell the vehicle back to you. I know they did years ago but I think I heard from my friend who is an adjuster that they won't anymore. I'll ask him when he comes back from vacation but you will prolly find out before me.

Sorry to hear about your accident, no one seriously hurt is a big plus. You can replace a car...
I remember catching some sleep in the back of the 15 passenger van on the way to a cut block one day (treeplanting); new driver, way too fast on gravel road, fish tail, overcompensation of steering wheel, rolling three times getting thrown out the side window on to the road...and no one coming out with serious injuries! You should consider yourself lucky when you think about it.

If you want a cheap (high km but but well running delica) now (same color and model as yours) please contact me. If you can wait until shipped, I have two here in Japan that I will let go for very cheap, both under 70,000kms and in excellent condition. Please pm if yuo're interested.

Just read the Nanaimo News Bulletin.... Thank goodness you and your family are ok.... Seeing the van lying on its side gave me the real impression of what you and your family escaped - thankfully without any serious injury...

I will definitively keep this in mind when I put my little boat trailer on...

Yes, I have a a 1994 Low roof with 70,000Kms grade 4.0 B. and a 1994 Jasper grade 3.5.C. with 146,000kms and 30.9 BFG All terrain T/A's on it. Really sweet looking. Both have fogs and covers..
They will both have all the maintenance done as per CCA Standards, (All Rubber hoses, Belts, Timing, tensioners, Water pump, Rad, Bushings, IP Timing, Oils, Filters and block heater...) Not in it for the money but for the fun of importing cool machines. So, prices are great value...and vehicles are mechanically sound....

Are you saying this van went through Glen's shop? Do you have the itemized list of what was done to the vehicle (preventative and corrective)?

Finally talked to an ICBC evaluator today and he came at me with an evaluation of........drum roll please.......$6,500......

This is after I provided him with all the receipts from original purchase ($13,880) to Plant Drive kit to after market stereo, totaling $15,831.92. 35 pages of documentation. I phoned up Glen @ CCAuto and he offered to talk to the evaluator for me and provide me with the original work order of what had been done to the van before it went to Five Star. I guess my hope for a smooth process has been dashed, anyone got some advice on how to deal with this? 20 years of safe driving, 1st accident, so I'm just realizing that this is a more of an adversarial than I was expecting.

In my (very limited) experience, it seems that they always low-ball you to start with. A friend of mine was offered $6000 for a car that cost her almost $11000, 2 years before. She went through some ads and printed comparable vehicles for sale with dealers and what not and presented them to the estimator, and ended up walking with $10,000 as I recall. I think they are hoping you'll jump at the first number so they can get the file closed. Don't sign anything until you're happy with the amount! Good Luck!

DO NOT SIGN ANYTHING!!! Hold off, keep the process going and use their resources. As a RoadStar with receipts and witnesses to the vehicle worth plus an entire community to back you up on "the real cost" you will get your money. DO NOT allow them to trick you into signing something until you know you will be reimbursed a fair amount.

Something similar happened to my friend with a done up 4runner. It took him a while(5 months) but eventually ICBC came around and gave a fair offer. If necessary you should lawyer up, but try to exhaust all resources first. (Importers/Sellers talking on your behalf, petition delica.ca, etc...)

Looks like I'm on to another adjuster. The certified ICBC appraiser out of Victoria that ICBC hired to appraise the van is off the case. As far as I can tell his appraising skills were limited to typing in 'Delica' to Craigslist, printing off the lowest listing and trying to fax them to me. He didn't seem to get that e-mailing me the lnks would work a lot faster seeing as I had to borrow an old fax machine to receive his faxes.

After round one of faxes I told him that he should add 'Super Exceed' to his search terms to get more comparable vehicles. After round two 5 out of the 6 were Super's, but only 2 of of the 6 were from dealers. I told him if I'd wanted to buy an unknown history vehicle I would have bought a private sale instead from Five Star. BTW, the two dealer listings he sent me had between a 0 and 40% rating on the dealers board.

Anyone out here gone to the next step?

I had a similar experience with a ICBC about 5 years ago. I basically had to pull together all the advertisements for similar vehicles and 'make a case' that mine was of comparable or greater value (basically what you think the appraiser should be doing )

Friggin insurance companies! Like trying to squeeze blood from a stone. Adam we've never met but I'm glad you and your family
came through more or less unscathed. Good luck with the paper work.
