Ding-dong... Ding-dong... Ding-dong...

Hello Everyone!

We've just purchased our long-searched-for Delica! This is an exciting time. I am hoping that this forum will be useful for maintenance and other questions from time to time.

As for my first question: I notice that when the speed of the van exceeds 110km/h, a sound "ding-dong...ding-dong...ding-dong" comes from the dashboard. I've been led to believe that this is a requirement in Japan, mandated by the gov't, as there are no highways where the speed limit is greater than 100km/h. Is this true? Does anyone here have any experience in disconnecting this "feature"?

hrmmm... mine doesn't "ding" when I exceed 110kph... you mentioned yours is a manual transmission, might it be complaining of high revs rather than high speed? (I know the manuals aren't geared for speed....)

we have found a number of these on Land Cruisers, a small black box with a red and black wire to it.
once you find it, it is a 5 second job to disconnect..

HI, This is the warning Buzzer sound in japan they used that you are exceeding the speed limit.you can just take off the buzzer connection in the back of the cluster. in japan they dont have big highways like we have so they dont go that fast:

Hello and welcome aboard,
My car dings too. The dealer I bought it from was going to disconnect it for me but I asked him not to. Instead, I asked him to install a bypass switch on the DRL controller so I could drive with the headlights off and not wake the neighbours at 5 a.m. I actually like the little dinger. I don't go fast often so when we hear the little dinger, we smile, Go little tin goat. Go!
