Does your Mitsubishi L300 make a strange noise? Need wheel alignment specs?

I want to change my Delica to run with 2 batteries at the same time

does it matter if one battery is 700 amps and the other 800 amps?
does it matter if one battery is older than the other?

Not really - it is fine to run two different amperage batteries, but if you can find two that are has high an Ah as possible, this will be better.

Bosch make a great battery called Asia Silver (or Silver Asia - can't remember which??) that has an excellent Ah rating as well as a superb CCA for starting in colder weather.

I bought two for my L400 recently and they are rated at 95Ah with 750 CCA each!! 8)

I'll see if I can find the data for the L300 ones.... :wink:

It should be ‘OK’, but it is preferable to have two of the same age unless running one as a leisure battery?

Car batteries aren’t as sensitive as smaller batteries (like remote control ones) that should never really be mixed, but I would say it would be better to keep them a similar age and they should both certainly be in good condition and able to hold their charge well.

According to Mitsubishi [in Japan] all exceed and superexceed models came with dual batteries. I would suspect this is due to the need for more amperage to run the addition standard power options.

I could very well be that if you have an exceed /superexceed with one battery, someone has cut corners and replaced two dead batteries with one. Dead batteries are common on older vehicles and it only takes a few weeks on a slow freighter before sulfation takes it's toll. I would check the output of the alternator. If it is the high output version you may already be set up for dual batteries. Obtaining a factory manual wiring diagram for the correct year would go a long way to eliminating the guess work

I have an exceed with one battery... it must be an option, because I am not sure where to even fit the second one. Can someone upload a pic of the two battery setup?

My Exceed only has one battery also, but my Super Exceed that's coming has two. I recall someone saying that they had to remove the coolant tank to manouver the batteries out.

The high output alternator is a 90 amp I think (someone correct me if I am wrong). Thanks a ton for the pic JungleJon. I guess I could squeeze one in there after all, judging by how tight they are in that pic.

The twin battery system/winter pack doesn't actually have a higher output alternator! (and I always thought it did! :shock: )

All 4WD L300's with 4D56 engines have 75A output alternators! (except the van variant 4WD with 4D56 which has 65A)

If you can get hold of an alternator from a 4G64 4WD (2.4 litre petrol) then this has a 90A output, but whether it fits onto the 4D56 engine or not is another matter! :?

Hope this clears up that question?

Hi, I dont have my delica yet, its still in japan, but I have been driving diesels for 15yrs and usually with dual batterys one is set for the glow plugs and one for the starter, yes they feed on each other, but thats how mine have always been set up. and I had my alternator "cranked up" by a alternator shop , I believe they can simply replace some of the guts and you have your high out put alt.
In my last Diesel blazer I had 3 batterys and two alternators, the second alternator was built by a guy on Island 4x4 , it was a Weldinator and I used it to do trail fixes , could actually weld from it. well thats my $0.02

from the factory the 2 Delica batteries are simply wired in parallel, so both run everything. as for a higher output alternator, so far I've been fine with this one, so I'll leave it as is, if I need bigger I'll see what's available, on my last diesel the biggest they could get was 70 simply due to space concerns (really tight space) but on here who knows...

The size of the stator windings determines the output of your alternator.
Quite often these can be changed out while still using the original frame.
Although I'm not sure this is the case with Mits.

Can anyone tell me what the physical dimensions are of the batteries on the dual battery set up? Also it looks like the same clamp is used to hold the dual batteries as for the single battery, but there appears to be another one that spans from the outside of one battery to the outside of the other. Is this correct? I'm thinking of putting in a second battery and want to make sure that I've got all the required items before I start.
