Hope I'm not highjacking here, but on the topic of wild mushrooms - Just a couple of pictures of the shaggy manes we had for dinner tonight. I forgot the camera at work today or else I would have included a shot of them alive - it was the biggest 'grove' of manes I've ever seen (nearly 100 ), hiding in a remote corner of our #1 garden. Delicious!

Before heading back to civilization we went all the way to Kwoiek Creek where in 2003 was a bridge. That year the friend of mine drove me further to Kokwaskey/Chochiwa Lakes where his Isuzu Trooper's battery died. To make the story short I want to bless local natives who happened to be there with their F150 (nobody had jumper cables though).
So, after a short hike we turned back, jumped in our pilot seats and the long return trip started with a short stop for lunch.

As mentioned before the original plan was to turn towards Lytton on a BC Hydro service road to take a Lytton ferry across the Fraser River but decided to make it another special trip.
The return trip was uneventful and we came back home safe and sound making a short stop for refueling in Mission.
All I want to add is that I was driving on 2WD all the time with no need to engage 4WD.

Great pics, both of you. What did you do for fuel? Did you have to take extra with you?

I always take an extra twenty litres. I have yet to use it (except once when we were sold soaking wet firewood). It takes up space but I think it is a prudent trade-off. Much better than walking.

I find that the kilometrage on these machines is pretty good. I have been deep into the woods where if you see fuel you top up even if you have 3/4's of a tank. We stopped in Boston Bar for fuel just before going in (to the bush) and we covered a lot of ground. Any time I am on a loose surface road I put her into 4WD so that I have active steering wheels. Many people tell me that I will use more fuel this way, but I haven't really noticed it. If even I did notice more fuel consumption it was when we were climbing mountains. So yeah, really good on fuel in the bush scenario. In fact the next time I refuelled was a few days after I got back to North Van.

P.S.: If you keep a charged jerry can be sure to change it occasionally so it doesn't go stale.

Definitely! you shouldn't store it more than a month or 2 without added stablizers.
on a side note, when filling you are always best at a diesel station that has lots of traffic, less chance that the stuff has been sitting in the tanks for a long time

Hey Sergiy,
Did you make it all the way up the west side to the Lytton ferry? I think you were throwing that idea around last summer...crossing over at Boston Bar then heading North from Bend past Nahatlatch / Kwoiek and then the ferry accross at Lytton. But my memory isn't what it used to be! I had heard the the MoF had taken out the bridge at Kwoiek crossing. Haven't done it since 1990 or maybe 91. Found a couple of old cemeteries from the homesteader days and the transition from wet West Coast to dry interior in one trip is noticeable and fun!

We did exactly this trip a couple month ago and it was no problem at all. You have to cross twice a creek without a bridge, but it was not bad. There is actually a very nice recreation site just in the valley on the opposite site of Boston Bar.

can't wait to come along on another adventure soon :) I've been super busy but I'll try to keep up on the board more often so I don't miss out on the fun.
