Mine also has the internal beeper, but as had been pointed out I think it's the same beeper as the keys in the ignition and headlights lights-on reminder, which I do use regularly.
My lights-on reminder is a buzzer, not a beeper... so many differences with these vans.

considering that my keys in ignition beeper and headlight on reminder are both disabled, and the reverse one still works, I'm going to say they are separate.

Well, if they are separate then the reverse reminder shouldn't be too hard to disable... Schematics would help solve the mystery.

My 89 has no beeper inside the cab but one mounted under the rear bumper. People ask me why I don't disable it, but I figure better safe than sorry. The vis out the back of the van is not spectacular and I have two kids shorter than the rear window. When it gets wet outside the beeping turns to a steady squeal which is even more annoying!

i just discovered that i have a reverse buzzer in the rear of the van. i took out the washer tank and when i put it back i saw i had disconnected a wire from the washer pump motor.
later when backing up i heard a reverse buzzer for the first time. i thought it was from the wires on the other side of the rear because i was in there too and rattled some wires. then i remembered about the "motor" wire i reconnected. the "washer pump motor" actually says "reverse buzzer" and i disconnected it again.
it was sure annoying.
btw i have key light and key reminder too

So, your ignition switch lights up? Cool! You just might be one of the few to have that option.

When i turn my headlights on, my reverse beeper goes from being extremely loud and annoying to quiet and mildly irritating.
