is there any way to turn off or disable the reverse beeper?

yes... but I can't remember where it is... one thing to note though, most people assume they are waking up the neighbours with it, they don't realize that the beeper is only inside the vehicle and nobody else can hear it.

Wow, I had no idea delicas came with reverse beepers! Never heard it mentioned here before and have never heard a delica beep. Maybe I've never listened to another one backing up though... - I suppose Hazel's Japanese owner disabled her's - thank God!

Don't know how to disconnect it, but suspect it is down under the dash near the over-100-km/h beeper. I don't have the speed-beeper in Moon Machine, but I do still have the back-up-beeper, and I kinda like it. It's been a gentle reminder on a couple of occasions. And yes, I'm glad it's only beeping INSIDE the cabin, because it would be a little annoying if it was outside.

The relay sized beeper is up under the dash, above the pedals; it's is shaped somewhat like a black relay. Lying down looking up under that area you see it, and can feel it vibrate when it's on.

But it is part of the Delica charm.............

I have gotten used to it. Sometimes I don't realise that I have her in reverse and I am reminded so I am happy to have it beeping. If there was a "Drive Beeper" I would think otherwise.

I've always found it amusing that the Japanese seem to have missed the point with the reverse beepers. I would assume most drivers know they are in reverse in an automatic because the vehicle is moving backwards. They were implemented in NA to warn people standing outside the vehicle that it was reversing and give them a head's up so they could scoot out of the way in case the operator did not see them. They are mandatory on all our vehicles at work. If we applied the Japanese logic to reverse beepers, then I'm suprised they did not also have a forward beeper!

I've got 4 flood lights on the rear of the Deli, two inline up top on the back of the roof basket, and two below beside the hitch receiver pointing out at 45 degrees. I put them on a separate switch, but also connected them to the backup lights. So now when I turn them on with the separate toggle switch, the reverse beeper comes on which is kind of a handy reminder that they are on.

I've seen it happen many times at intersections where someone stops too far forward at a red light, reverses out of the intersection, and never puts it back in drive, the light turns green, they take their foot off the brake, put it hard on the gas and accellerate hard in to the vehicle behind them...
I have been that vehivle behind the moron... I could see it comming, but there was nothing I could do... a Delica style buzzer might have prevented it.

Never thought of that, point taken, my apologies to the JDM engineers that I insulted. Maybe there is enough noise already in Japanese cities that they didn't want it sounding outside.

marsgal42: you have the ignition chime? Cool? do you also have the ignition light? Haven't seen one of those yet, but with it in the accessories catalogue, it's only a matter of time.

Mine came with a reverse beeper under the back of the van but it had been disconnected and now I've removed it to make room for the WVO tank. It seemed to be attached as if it were a factory option rather than an aftermarket tack-on.

Mine also has the internal beeper, but as had been pointed out I think it's the same beeper as the keys in the ignition and headlights lights-on reminder, which I do use regularly.
