Thanks for all your help so far, but wait there's more!

Post by roswel »

thanks everyone for all of your help... the support has been overwelming.

So here is the plan, I am going to buy from BC, lowermainland or the island. So I am going to start looking now.

I will be driving the van back to Ontario (might take a month as there is alot to see and fish between here and there) and want to ensure that the Deli can make it.

(Is Deli ok as a nicname? I like it, maybe Nellie the Deli? unless I leave my waders in there wet...then it is smeli deli... anyways..I digress.)

Anyways, is there a service that would be able to check out a Deli I see online and ensure it is fine? Maybe someone from here wants to go vehicle shopping for $ and huge Karma points?

Looking at the lists that have been made for things you want to do when you buy a new Delica is there a price tag that would ballpark new belts (timing belt if it is not already done), glowplugs, all fluid flushes?

Maybe there is a dealer that does all of this for you so it is pay and drive? Luxury imports will but it seemed that it was a $3000 premium?

Thanks in advance... the search begins.

You probably want to buy from a "full service" dealer. Japanoid did a major service on Gumdrop before she left Japan, including all the belts. She's run like clockwork ever since. Yes, I paid for it, but it's cheap insurance.

there are several full-service dealers that will do this, some substantially cheaper than luxury imports.

**** EDIT: removing my recomendation for Luxury imports due to their recent change in attitude slandering the entire import process, flinging baseless accusations at other importers and exporters, and admission of illegal importing ****

I purchased mine from http://www.maxoverdrive.ca/default.asp?id=MITSUBISHI and am pleased with my dealings with them. They are in Richmond which is just minutes away from the Vancouver airport.
You have the choice of buying a Delica that is Completely serviced, belts etc. or one that you have to prepare yourself. The one i bought was road ready and all i had to do was insure it.
They get all the servicing done at CVI automotive group which is a very well regarded Delica-and other makes- shop which is in richmond just a 10 minute drive from the dealership. They also offer a six month warranty.

They do a FULL service, detailing, preventative maintenance, and provide a warranty. beyond that, Luxury Imports has brought in the absolute cleanest and best condition vehicles I have ever seen from any importer.
Thanks for the vote of confidence. Now that Wayne has left to Ontario he no longer provides a warranty service, which would make a value difference of course.

The vehicle I was quoted on was a 3.5 Grade and seemed to have alot of stains, burns and a dent, non working crystal lites and the that was the price. Hence why I was a little leary, although their reputation seems to top notch, but what I am seeing at Japanoid seems to be about 20% less.

hard buying a vehicle over the net.... but it is going to be like christmas.

You're telling me! When I bought mine none of the importers were bringing these things in on spec yet, and many of the big names had yet to bring one it at all... I bought my van based on the 2 auction photos and a translated auction sheet. (the auction photos are TINY!)
If I were to do it again right now, I'm torn, I'd still consider buying one in Japan to get something "special", but there are so many landed vehicles these days that I would be awful tempted to take some risk out of it by buying one already in Canada.

We bought our from Abbotsford Japan Auto (.com), of course in Abbotsford, BC. We are very happy with the vehicle, level of service and the warranty (one year) more if you want to buy it. They did a FULL service and will gladly back it up.

Got the Jammy Dodger through Japanoid. They had their people in Japan go look at different Delicas, sent us photos and specs, we picked the second one we saw. They imported it, serviced it, etc. They were really good.

They bought our Deli from a dealer in Japan rather than an auction, which makes it more likely that the vehicle is what it says it is, including the kms.

...and Nellie the Deli is a great name. :-)

I am currently dealing with Mardy (Mardydelica). I am in Winnipeg and like you, want my future van to be in in tip top form. I have spent a lot of time on this forum reading and reading and reading.....Mardy has got a great reputation here and was the obvious choice for me. My family and I spent some time in Vancouver in April. Mardy let me drive his van and spent a lot of time with me answering all my questions with great detail.

I highly recommend him

good luck

Thanks for the advice everyone.

I appreciate the heads up on these services.

I'll be talking to everyone over the next couple of days.

I'm going start digging through the biodiesel forums and I know I am going to have more questions.

just to chime in on this. As you've no doubt discovered the amount of work performed by the sellers varies greatly. Seems some do the compliance, change belts and fluids and basic stuff and put it on the lot. Others do the compliance, belts and fluids but much more. *(Then there's those who claim to do much more, but actually do as little as possible. Hopefully you've been able to glean those out of your list of possibles). As such the prices reflect the range of attention given from dealer to dealer. While i'm not advocating buying the most expensive vehicle, it seems you'll spend the money one way or another i.e up front or over time.

good luck.

BTW where in Ontario are you?

Hey T
I live in Kitchener also and was just wondering who you are going through for insurance. I've phoned a couple of places and they just flat out said no ( except if I only use it in parades...gimme a break). Any leads would be appreciated.

Thanks
