Engine troubles

Post by Skeeter »

Hi everyone I am having some trouble with my Delica making an ugly noise kinda sounds like an exhaust leak in the manifold but is not , no power and smokes like a chimney. All cylinders are working at first I thought it was an exhaust valve but I am not sure. I am in Ontario and can't get much help here so any info will help . Thanks Skeeter

Are you sure it's not the manifold? I went down a similar road. I was shocked to see the flimsy design of the stock gasket and the resulting failure. Couldn't find it till I took it to a mechanic, whom just identified the problem easily.
BCDelica wrote:Even more Delica love in the form of fixing an issue - these two issues are the only failures we've had in 3 years and a mess of miles. Hers had a leaky exhaust manifold gasket and Afteroil pick up a replacement gasket from CCAuto for me. Was a typical Delica job; hard to reach nuts'n'bolts but they all spun! Even three small, 10mm, bolts holding on a heat shield that looked rusty from the heat and rounded on the head - no problem'o.

Old, stock gasket; only a thin metal ring, around each exhaust port, held in place by gasket material. One small opening created plenty of noise. looked like that metal ring moved slightly within the gasket material at the leak.

New Mitsubishi gasket from Glen for just $55; 4 layers of stainless sheet to provide the exhaust portion of the gasket. Thing looks like it'd last longer then I will.

Kev

Check the obvious yet? Cam timing, compression, egr valve? Did you work on anything before it happened? Did it just happen while driving?

Read this post as the symptoms sound similar... loss of power and lot's of smoke. It may come out very handy for you.

Did you play with the Vacuum system at all? I crossed two hoses at one point in my veggie oil addition and ended up with what I thought was a boat anchour. Very loud knock on acceletation tons of smoke and no power. See posts here:http://www.delica.ca/forum/engine-troub ... ne+trouble

Good luck

Andy
