Brake upgrade?????

Post by delicanewguy »

Hey folks, here is a question for you all. Has anyone done a brake upgrade? A beefier setup to give more stopping power?
By the way,all of you are responsible for my lack of sleep. This site and the UK site has so much information that I believe I'm pretty close to being able to build one of these from scratch!

I've done it on my Pajero (same as Delica).

I went Raybesto's all the way around as they are heavy duty brake sets.

Went from the single piston to dual piston in the fronts and it makes a difference with all the weight on these Mitsu's.

ps. only thing you have to do is trim about 1" away from the dust/heat shield so the bracket can line up with the mounting holes. Other than that, it's a straight bolt-on upgrade.

This site is like having a crystal ball, put a question in and out pops an answer! Nice work from Bruce there. So Jesse, what caliper's did you use? or was it the same thing that Bruce did?
The mention of seizing is interesting. When I was test driving a number of Delica's,I had the great luck(or misfortune) of having a delica's brakes seize on me while test driving it.Had me concerned but I chalked it up to "things happen".So Bruce's comment that his setup( slick indeed) could be prone to more seizing makes me wonder.
I also had a jeep yj (try the 4.2 for gas guzzling). There was a kit that I was looking at where you could convert the rear drums to a rotor setup, anyone heard of such a thing for Delica's?

Thanks for your answers guy's

Sorry for the late response. Skipped the thread. :?

For the fronts I used Raybesto's semi-loaded calipers (twin-piston) for a 1992 Mitsubishi Montero Sport and the beafier pads as well.

Only mod I had to do was the same as Bruce. Have to grind down about an inch or so from the top corner on the shield where the new mounting bracket contacts with. Aside from that, it's an easy install and worthy upgrade.
