Any ideas anyone!

Post by misterroboto »

SO....sounds like I have a major repair to be done and my local mechanic is unable to do it. SO... I need/want to transport my van to Richmond to get it into CVI. I have spoken to some local towing providers and I am looking at potentially $1500 just to get it to the coast. Any ideas anyone? Someone got a trailer, some time and a truck? Oh goodness......

Door to door delivery from squamish to calgary was quoted only around $800 by http://www.searail.ca 1-866-282-9831
Probably way less from Golden (rail runs right through there no?) to Delta - Give them a shout then perhaps CVI can pick it up for you in Richmond???

Check with trucking companies. I was quoted $500 today for my Citroen from Williams Lake to Houston. This is from B and J Trucking in Williams Lake. They have been very good for me and moving vehicles - they brought me a Land Rover from Edmonton to Williams Lake for $300 a couple years ago. They just need someway to load and unload - a flatdeck tow truck works good..

maybe you could work something out with CVI or Mardy to help your local guy do the repairs over the phone for a little $$ for there time and knowledge? probably be cheaper and your guy will learn something new! just an idea.

My local mechanic does not do "internal engine" repairs so I am looking to have to outsource it no matter what. I am just thinkinh it might be worth my while to get it out to Butch/CVI on the coast so there will be no more messing around. Looked into a couple of freight companies and I have gotten quotes down around $700 now, waiting for a quote from searail to see what they might be able to do it for. Thanks everyone for your ideas. Hopefully Butch can repair my engine!

when my tire blew out i needed a tow from far way,so instead of paying fo rthe tow i sign up for BCAA (took literally 5 min) and then called then right away, came and towed it for free.the member ship was BCAA plus for 17o something and comes with a bunch of free shit(i think 6 free tows and some others)

I have BCAA Plus but it is only good for 160km and then it is $2.50/km after that. Getting the Delica to the coast would cost me roughly $1300....ouch!

Hi, is your delica running, maybe call allied System canada they always have truck coming to delta, try to call them 604-525-3321,
as long as th delica is running,
the way it works is try to contact them & see if you have any nearby gas station & leave your delica there & the truck carcarrier will pick-it up.
my client did it before in kamloops.
so try maybe it works for you,
then if in delta, we can hel you from there no problem for towing to cvi o.k.
cheers;
Mardy

The distance from Banff to Golden is 134km, which means you can get your BCAA towing done. Jeremy's Automotive ((403) 762-3522 jrauto@telus.net) is experienced in working with Delica's and can also source the parts (but they will charge your retail, you're better off to source the parts yourself from ROcky Mountain Imports).

There is a new CAA $25.00 upgrade package out for towing called 'Premier' ($140.00 per year) that I got a brochure about that offers 320 kilometers of free towing (twice per year at 320 and another 4 tows at 160km). BCAA Offers it, details are here http://www.bcaa.com/wps/portal/membersh ... sl/761.htm:

That would cover the 262km from Golden to Calgary and you could take your vehicle to ProActive, or you may be able to get 'creative' and have the tow to Calgary done a 2 separate towing incidents on your existing plan.

You can rent a tow dolly that goes under one axle from Uhaul or elsewhere and tow it down yourself with a good pickup or van. Be sure the tow vehicle is heavier than the Deli. Put the Deli on backwards if it's automatic and tie the steering wheel to hold the front wheels straight so it can't break free.

I towed an S15 Jimmy behind a Rider cube van from Ontario to BC that way back in 98. It was an easy tow with the heavier truck.

Stop for coffee in Kelowna while passing through.

Hi Bob,

As it's been over 2 weeks since he's been on here it's probably resolved itself, I even sent a PM and didn't get a reply. Hopefully we'll eventually hear how it all worked out in the end.

I wanted to go the Tow Dolly route but in the end found out that the vehicle on the Dolly has to have registration and insurance. Obviously in this case he has those already, but I was disappointed it won't work if you want to pick up a newly imported vehicle that is not yet insured and registered.
