Hey there,
I'm a Canadian currently residing in Germany and looking to buy a campervan, most likely a L300, provided we (my partner and I) find what we are looking for - we are a little bit picky... We will be moving to Southern Ontario for half a year before heading out on a yearlong road trip all the way down to Argentina. After much research, we would love to make a Delica our home for our adventure and maybe even ship her back to Canada afterwards. We are new to this and would love some input from all you experts out there...
We are have been looking at vehicles here in Germany and would love some input from some people who know what they are talking about.
What we are looking for:
- L300
- at least 15 years old, so we can import it into Canada (we will use this vehicle during our 6 months living and working here, so we can't say we are temporarily in Canada, we need to officially import it, however we won't have to pay import duties as my partner is immigrating to Canada)
- a left hand drive - my partner really isn't comfortable driving a RHD vehicle, so this is why we are thinking to import one to Canada from Europe. Most (maybe even all) of the ones we have seen in Canada are RHD and most of them are located out west as well.
- Preferably diesel, as we mainly want this vehicle for a long road trip, mainly driving long distances vs in the city
- Preferably a 4WD
- A pop-up roof! My partner is pretty insistent on this part. We would be open to buying one and putting it on ourselves but they seem to be pretty pricey. We would also like a pop-up roof instead of high roof because we will have to do some shipping and would like it to fit into a container.
- Camperized is a plus, but we would also be willing to do it ourselves. We just haven't come across any vans with a pop-up roof that isn't camperized.
If you have anything to add, if i'm misinformed etc. please let me know.
I'm going to post some links to vans for sale here in Germany. Everything will be in German but hopefully browser translators will be ok.
So here is what Germany has to offer at the moment!
#1 - http://suchen.mobile.de/auto-inserat/mi ... res=EXPORT
- But it is gas and has quite a bit of kms on the engine already
- This is the only one we are really considering checking out at the moment, the rest we are including just for your viewing pleasure
So what do you guys think?

This next one is everything we are looking for but it is more than we want to spend. We don't know if it is worth it shipping the car back to Canada or if we will just end up selling it to other travellers in Argentina (and perhaps selling it for cheap).

Would love your input

Re: Would love your input
Has your partner driven RHD's ?
I hear this story a lot "afraid, not comfortable, etc .." and then the person finally drives a RHD for a bit and loves it.
Every single person (including my mom) who said they didn't feel comfortable driving RHD either own one now or had fun after getting used to it. Everyone.
Just a thought as that may be a good fit for you "work within your budget" and "you pay extra for what you want instead of what's available" are common sayings for overlanders.
Delica's are great small platforms. Enjoy !
