Just cannot win

Post by dmg »

After a long drive through the West Harrison FSR we found these signs posted all around Highland Valley Copper Mine.

I am pretty sure they were not intending to pick on Delicas.

I wonder what inspired those signs?

vehicles on the mine site drive on the left side of the road instead on the right. Something to do with being seen by the giant equipment around corners...

Close. It's more about ease of which those big pieces of equipment relate to each other and to their environment... mainly the haul trucks. At our sites here in the Rockies, we only drive on the left on "spoils" (the dumps for waste material). Many of our sites (mostly copper mines - like our Highland Valley site) the entire site will drive on the left as their are so many haul trucks zipping all over.

The driver knows that if he hugs the left berm, he has enough room for his vehicle, which is often 25-plus feet wide (and over a million lbs loaded). The drivers don't watch out for light duty vehicles (anything under 100,000 GVW) - that's their job, lol.

This is a GMC Sierra that recently got run over by a HD Loader. It's... impressive. ;-) The truck was fortunately empty (the driver was in the cab of the loader... oops)

DMG, if you were somewhere that had LHD-only signs, there is a good chance you weren't supposed to be there, hehe. The truck in the distance, is a 240-ton Cat 793F

So about 3/4s of the way through you see a haul truck that is all twisted and broken because there is a massive rock in its box. That truck can easily haul 450 tons. Gives you an idea of how much that rock weighed in at and how powerful the shovels are to be able to load it, lol.
