Re: alarm system
The more i think about the alarm i might be inclined to get the pager also ,im just tight for flow and time to move out onto the street,my friend came over and he has an alarm in his car ,i ask him to set if off where i will be parked and it was heard but not as much as id like ,so i might need the paging system for that reason ,but they do run a bigger price tag ,so fare iv seen them for around $400 to$500 bucks and icbc wont give a dicount on insurance if you do it yourself. Its one of those things.so if somone has found a place and price that can go a cheaper route than im all ears,i still think that if the window is smashed and the locks busted an alarm is an alarm. pager or not,and if somone wants one of our jewels then theyll get it ,although i think they might be detured bye the RHD and the rarity of the van(we hope)anyways in the end i still have to park on the street and i need something for my rolling hunk of metal.

Re: alarm system
Until you make your decision with your alarm, why don't you just put a good old club on your steering wheel. If a crook sees yours with the club parked next to that car without...chances are your neighbour's car will be gone in the morning while yours will still be there. Just don't leave any valuable in sight. And as you said, by the time you make it to your van, alarm or not, pager or not, the crooks will be gone with the items they were looking for...
This way you'll have extra peace of mind until you spend all that money on an alarm. I may consider it one day but I'd rather spend my $$$ to make the Delica run it's best and trust my good old club. Has anyone got their Delica stolen here in BC???
Keep safe!

Re: alarm system
Argh! Too funny....Talking abut alarms and such and this morning I roll out to find my $1500 DVD/stereo setup plus the iPod that was hidden and locked inside my dash has been pilfered. Add to that the effing passenger lock having been ripped clean out of my effing passenger door. Oh well...

Re: alarm system
I noticed the other day in the squamish walmart that they have one alarm system with the pager for onyl 140?now i didnt read much into it but im sure it would do the trick for a cheeper price...im always skepticle when it comes to wal marts quality though, its got to have something finicy in it for that price if all the once you guys are looking at are 500.
anyways if you want a cheep one there was one left in squamish.

Re: alarm system
I am a goombah and did not have one yet! The plan was to spend a bit on a stereo and a bit on an alarm but I went balls out on the stereo/dvd rig and told myself I'd get the alarm soon.....And then never did! My fault.
Today I had an ICBC appointment and he basically told me that they would not replace my 1500$ stereo/dvd because it was in the dash which is illegal!!!!!!! I was pissed and acted a fool and then had to apologize. I was pretty upset because the shop that installed it told me it was illegal to WATCH dvd's while I drove (which would be dumb) but never told me I couldn't actually have it in the front dash!
Anyways, ICBC dude took pity on me and wrote me a check for 850$ which is pretty good of them since they really didn't have to do anything!
Funny thing is I never played a DVD in it ever! I just liked the large touch screen for scrolling through the retarded amount of music I have in my iPod.

Re: alarm system
near as I can tell, it's perfectly legal to have a DVD system in the front dash, as long as it can not be used to watch movies while driving, the usual solution for this is a parking brake sensor so that the screen in the dash only works when the vehicle is in park.
Re: alarm system
Yeah I totally thought that also! But I guess because they have the ability to watch a DVD while driving they are now not allowed in the front. There is one Pionner model that is nearly $3000 that is legal and it uses some sort of built in system to keep it from working while driving. Gay. I will admit right now though that I am planning on getting another one similar to the model I had even though it won't be covered by ICBC. I like the big 'ol touch screen damnit.

hence the bit about the parking brake sensor. makes it so the front screen only works when the vehicle is parked. But I guess because they have the ability to watch a DVD while driving they are now not allowed in the front.

Re: alarm system
I was hoping to get an in dash gps navigation unit, these also play dvd's, I haven't seen one that doesn't, I wonder if they would try to say the same about that unit if you only referred to it by the name the manufacturer gives it (GPS navigation unit, most don't reference dvds at all). would be worth looking into.
Re: alarm system
ICBC man told me that GPS units are legal and covered for sure. I did not realize those things do DVD's.....If they do that they may also run with an iPod???
I don't try and scam any systems over (for the most part) but I did screw myself with this one. When I filed my claim via phone I called the unit a "in dash DVD/stereo" not realizing it was not legal where it was. Also my receipt stated that it was a DVD player. BUT these are all things I could have done differently if I was aware of the issue....And less honest. And less chicken....

My Mac laptop and cam were taken today from my van. Less then a week after my other goods were taken.

Re: alarm system
too much of this going on this past week or so...
Alarm is working, but tomorrow's task is to get my GPS tracking system back up and running... and probably tweak the vibration and glass-break sensors...
