L400 choices!
Are the later model Gen1 L400's more reliable than the 94's for example? in the market and have options of:
-97 Gen2 with 172km - http://www.amazingautoimports.com/t/199 ... nix-172km/
-96 with 103km - http://www.rs-import.ca/shop/step1.php?number=842
-94 with 165km - http://www.delica.ca/trader/index.php?l ... _Spacegear
have a really short window to make a decision and would love a few bits of input!
I know there is lots of knowledge in this forum, curious what you all think.
Cheers!
Chris.

Re: L400 choices!
No difference in reliability that I know of. I prefer private sales, sounds like the 94 has had lots of preventative maintenance done to it. I would try to talk the price down since it's too close to the dealers prices imho. I like the look of the first one too but this is all speculation as to which is best. Regardless of which you choose, have an inspection done by an unbiased shop and take it from there.

Re: L400 choices!
I agree, i'd go private as well with a solid inspection by CVI.
They will tell you all.
Also the 2nd Gen has a different fuel pump i believe (electric). If it goes out it has to be replaced in full. 2nd gen has a bit better fuel economy due to the pump though. Otherwise no difference really.

Re: L400 choices!
If I had to do it over again, I'd buy a white one.
That said, the private sale looks like the best deal.
As for the bit on the electric pump, I believe it's the mechanical pump with electronic control tacked on. Meaning you can still do the pump seal, etc. just like the mechanical one.

Re: L400 choices!
Gen 2 has more HP. I think it's 141 vs 128
The choice is primarily aesthetic though - bull bar or no bull bar.
The private sale price is good considering a lift would cost over $1500 to have installed - plus all the other work. The big drawback there is that it's in Nelson. There are other nice private sales - you'll save a few thousand that you could spend on upgrades.

Chris Firstly, if you only have a short time window to make a decision I would back off till I had more time.
IMHO the first two have upholstery colours that are too hard on the eyes. Neyt
The third is a low roof. Are you tall and do you plan to camp or use the rear extensively? It has a lot of good features and has had the rad, timing chain and alternator replaced. Lots of front end repairs too. Possibly a sign of a well maintained machine. Ask lots of questions as to why all the repairs.
Good luck

Re: L400 choices!
That private one was my personal L400 that I imported and worked on.
At 9k that's stupid cheap.
They forgot to mention it has a 2" lift kit, 31" Duratrac tires, custom 360 degree swivel passenger seat, pyro, boost gauges and other goodies I put on.
All the mechanical work was not repairs. It was all preventative maintenance for the long run.
Here's some mods: http://www.delica.ca/forum/l400-swivell ... -7464.html
Super nice family up in Nelson. It's worth the drive. Sad they are parting with it.

I haven't heard anything back from you. You still have those lifts? I need one soon, very soon.

Re: L400 choices!
Dealer prices are around the $12000 mark nowadays. $9000 represents a 30% savings not to mention that a number of the private sales on Delica Trader in addition to the dealer service also tend to have a number of other repairs and fixes to issues that the dealers did not notice in their limited time with the vehicles. Then on top of that you have the mods.. As a base many delica.ca member rides tend to get outfitted with additional gauges, lighting and drivetrain mods like exhaust. $$$. Add it up and you would be in the $15000+ ballpark for a similar spec rolling off a dealer lot if they did the extra work. That brings the savings over 40%. Damn such a good deal I might buy my own L400 off myself!!!nxski wrote:No difference in reliability that I know of. Of course I sound biased since I have my L400 listed on Delica Trader but if I was looking I would definately buy off there from a member who has a history of posting about their vehicle. It's just too bad we no longer have the old forum classifieds where owners and spectators could talk about the vehicles instead of the horribly stale and dead Delica Trader where for sale ads go to die...
