VW TDI
anyone ever thought about swapping in a little tuned VW TDI into an L300? they seem to have a whole lot more jam in a small enough package to interest suzuki guys, so maybe the dimensions could potentially work? I know there is a lot of wiring to contend with, but that shouldnt be enough to scare someone away
Maybe way down the road when i am rolling in dough and spare time i can try it out, although that day may never come haha) I am also aware of the fact they are a transaxle, but as far as I know all you should have to do is make an adapter for the bellhousing and new motor mounts to fit up the engine? then of course wiring in the ECU and plumbing fuel, oil, and air lines.

Re: VW TDI
That is funny. I have heard of every VW owner in the world swapping everyting under the sun into their VW, but never the other way around! The VW TDI is their best engine though. Interesting.

Re: VW TDI
you can get rid of most of the electronics and convert it to a mechanical injection pump.
I am sure there is an adapter somewhere on the market to bolt to a mitsubishi transmission.
I installed the 1.9TD version (mechanical injection) into my Iltis and it has treated me very well considering the punishment i have given it.

Re: VW TDI
hmm yeah i would think that the electronics give it a bit of an edge over an all mechanical system? IE the tuneable ECU for fuel econ vs power etc etc. Im not scared of a little wiring, and I can imagine if you wire up all the sensors correctly, in theory it should run just fine. It was just a random thought though haha

Re: VW TDI
not worth the bother...L300 is heavy...OM617 or OM616 is what you want. cast iron block and cylinder....ran mine so hot seized the motor...cooled down ran like new...seriously tough motor...ok power likes RPM and mercedes cars about the weight of L300

Re: VW TDI
a 617 would fit in the engine bay without too much trouble? i figured it would have been a bit on the large side. that would be a sweet engine to swap in. id probably look at doing an SAS as well if i were to go through all the trouble of fitting in a better engine. might as well go all the way!
