I/we have been very absent from the Delica world of late and would like to say we are sorry for being out of touch over the last while.
Linda and I relocated back to BC just over 6 weeks ago and prior to that were all but consumed with all the details of leaving Calgary and moving permanently to the Sunshine Coast. We have had a weekend retreat we call our cabin on The Coast for 7 years and it has always had a magnetism that drew us back or would make it difficult to leave once we were here on holidays. After I participated in the Tough Mudder event in Whistler to kick off the new life, we are now getting settled and have been working extremely hard on our new property/business in addition to working on finishing renovations at the cabin.
I am unsure how active the Sunshine Coast Delica owners are - there are lots of you out there - but I am hopeful we can try to have some get togethers and some adventures in the near future. To all our wonderful Delica friends in Calgary, we hope you will someday come out to visit us and stay in touch and the same goes for those I have known in the Lower Mainland.
Please check out our website at www.beachsidebythebay.com and/or our Beachside by the Bay Facebook page.
We miss you all and the fun times we had. Please keep in touch!
Cheers!
Ian and Linda

Wowser, what a wonderful deck you have there! That beach deck looks like a super place to spend a warm BC evening. I've been a solid 3 years away from BC, and with visiting friends and family whom are on the waterfront, have truly been appreciating that special something BC seaside has.
Bet you're looking forward to those middle, maybe never see the snow stick to the ground, sunshine coast winters!
Cheers,
Kevin

Hey Kevin!
Thank you! Yes, the deck is amazing for sure! The summer has been super nice for the last 6-1/2 weeks and the deck has been a great place to end the day. The firepit is there for when it gets cooler too.
I agree... there is nothing like the coast to ground one's self. It has a very calming feel to it even when working hard. Having grown up in the Lower Mainland and being around the water all my life, it was tough being away in Calgary for 2-1/2 years but we made some great friends there in the Delica community and hope they will see their way to the coast for a visit.
As far as the winters go... yup!... the loooong Alberta winters can be a drag. Don't mind the coastal rain at all.
I'm thinking it's not so bad being where you are either, eh?
Cheers!

Re: Apologies to all my Delica.ca friends and an update
Wow! Davis Bay! My grandmother lived near Davis Bay for decades & we often used to visit her in the summer. Her place was called "Sea Point"; no actual street address in the 60's & 70's, just a mail box marked "Sea Point". She had a very modest little house at the top of a very steep driveway with a commanding view of the ocean as well as the mouth of Wilson Creek just to the north.
Further back on the same property lived my great-uncle Fred. My dad knew the area from his childhood & would take us to secret fishing holes seemingly out in the middle nowhere. I used to love those visits.
After uncle Fred and gran had both passed away, another uncle (Dad's brother) renovated & later sold that place; which I'm sure has an actual street address now along with a massive property value.
Thanks for stirring some magical moments from my past... I may just have to visit you some day.

That's very cool Tim!
My wife's family has had property on the coast over the years too. Her uncle had the property 3 doors over from us that he purchased in the depression days for around 400 bucks! He then sold the upper half to the Jehova's Witnesses which he thought was quite amusing. Wife's parents had a place on the highway right in Davis Bay and another uncle built a place behind the Bella Beach motel. On top of that there was an uncle (pretty sure he was an uncle) who owned and lived on a sailboat named the "Dragoon" in Pender Harbour for many years. He and his wife were featured on the TV show "Klahanie" in the 60's just after the Stanley Park hurricane of 1962 at the time they lived in Coal Harbour and rode out the hurricane in their boat.
I could go on about the coast forever... so much interesting history here and cool people too.
Street addresses are now the norm of course but a lot of the old places still have their names too. One of my faves is "Cool Shannon" in Davis Bay... just sounds, well, cool
Happy to have stirred some old memories. If you haven't been up for a while, you should... the whole coast has a magnetism to it that never seems to leave you.
Cheers!
