Hey guys,
I know I should probably be putting this in the WagonVan section, but I think it is more of a general L300 question because I bet the roofs are the same across the L300,and the North American spec WagonVan. I also figure it will get more exposure in this forum as not many people hang in the WagonVan section.
I would like to get a roof rack for my van, but in my search through Yakima, and Thule shows many options the prices are crazy. Have you guys figured out a cheaper way to get a roof rack, or basket on the top of your vans. I can't see spending $3-400 for a basket, and $2-300 for the uprights, and cross bars. Any other options?

Re: Roof racks?
Hi Mazdax, you know that the Delica Starwagon has two types of roof, the P35W or "High Roof" is five inches higher than the P25W, or "Low Roof" (aka the Aero-roof). I have a P25W. I purchased a pair of Thule Sport Rack bars from a place in Canada called Canadian Tire, a nation wide big box chain. I asked for the Montero model, fits like a glove.
I would think that being in the States you could go to a Thule dealer and tell them that you have the Mitsubishi Vanwagon and they should have your wagon in the system, no?
Here's what the bars look like:

Yeah I am sure I could go to a dealer and they can help me out, but I don't think I want to pay those prices. Any other options?

I paid $200.00 Canadian, which for up here is an okay price for new bars. Go somewhere and establish what model you want, once you've established which bars you want go scan the various buy & sell media outlets and see if you can find them for cheaper. Basically, shop around. Doubt you'll find them for free, 'though one never knows. Does Napa sell Thule bars? Go ask them.

Re: Roof racks?
Hi Maz, I will post a photo of mine. soon. Meanwhile, note that the roof is higher at the back than the front, so you can not use exactly the same height on all the cross pieces, so measure well (mock up with cardboard, and you will see what I mean). I carry canoes on mine. Cheers, Christine.
